South Tahoe Public Utility District's (STPUD) new hydro-power generating unit at their Diamond Valley Ranch facility in Alpine County is expected to start commercial operations on October 1, 2017. When it goes on line they will start selling power generated from the recycled water flowing down from the top of Luther Pass towards their storage reservoir to Liberty Utilities.
During their April 6 meeting, the STPUD Board of Directors approved agreements with Liberty Utilities to interconnect the C-Line hydraulic power generation facility to the Liberty Utilities power system, and to then sell the generated power.
According to Richard Solbrig, STPUD General Manager, they estimate revenue generated from the sale of the power to be between $25,000 and $30,000 annually.
