Wreckage from an airplane that has been missing since early this week was found Thursday afternoon in the Pine Nut Mountains in southern Douglas County, authorities confirm.
At 2:20 pm the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue with the assistance from Lyon County Search and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff’s Helicopter (Raven) and Civil Air Patrol, located the missing aircraft.
The wreckage was found near Bald Mountain. SAR personnel have examined the wreckage and confirmed there are two deceased persons present. At this time Douglas County Sheriff's Office personnel are in the process of recovering the bodies and securing the crash site.
The search began Monday after the plane took off Sunday from Las Vegas to a northern Nevada destination, likely the Minden-Tahoe Airport.
Positive identification of the deceased is pending autopsy and notification of family.
