A study by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs revealed that over 8,000 veterans commit suicide each year in the country, that's 22 per day. As shocking as this figure is, it may even be higher because California, Texas and Illinois did not supply make data available.
With staggering figures such as this, the Western Nevada College's Veteran's Resource Center is holding "Veteran's Suicide Awareness March" on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
South Lake Tahoe's Kenny Curtzwiler will be speaking at the event.
The walk will start at the corner of College Parkway and Highway 395 in the parking lot near Bully's at 10 a.m. It will proceed 1.5 miles to Western Nevada College.
Besides the awareness march there will be resources available for veterans including how to look for signs of suicide.
