Ideas and opinions sought at Meyers Area Plan meeting

Event Date:
May 6, 2015 - 5:30pm

An Open House for the Meyers Area Plan (MAP) will be held on Wednesday, May 6 at the Lake Tahoe Environmental Magnet School located at 1095 East Bernardino Avenue from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Since El Dorado County County Counsel decided Area 5 Supervisor Sue Novasel can't represent her constituents in forming the plan due to a conflict of interest, Board of Supervisors Chair Brian Veerkamp will now be involved. He will make the opening remarks at Wednesday's open house.

Novasel owns 11.5% of a commercial building in Meyers, and it was determined that decisions about the MAP and zoning changes could affect her investment.

After Veerkamp speaks there will be a breakout session with opportunities for public questions and comments. County, TRPA, Caltrans and California Tahoe Conservancy representatives will staff various stations to address topics on recreation, transportation, land use, and design.

The public is encouraged to share their thoughts about the draft plan. All comments and ideas will then be presented during a Board of Supervisors workshop this summer where they may decide to initiate an environmental review of the Draft Plan.

The Meyers Area Plan serves as the long-term land use guide to maintain and enhance the rural character of Meyers and proposes revisions to building design and other standards. It consolidates County and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency permitting requirements into one consistent set of regulations that simplifies permitting for small projects. It also identifies needed improvements in the community such as bike trails, signage and intersection improvements. The revised Plan is an update of the 1993 Meyers Community Plan, originally designed as a five year plan.
