Carline Sinkler has been selected as the new principal of South Tahoe High School and the community is invited to meet her at the LTUSD District Office on Tuesday, May 23 at 5:00 p.m.
Sinkler comes from the San Francisco Unified School District where she has served as the principal of Herbert Hoover Middle School since 2013.
She was selected by the interview committee with "overwhelming enthusiasm" according to Shannon Chandler, the district's public information officer.
"She has as a shared vision to develop thriving, future-ready students through collaborative, innovative, and learning-centered leadership, and is committed to building on South Tahoe High School’s current strengths in academics, arts, and athletics, and to promote a positive culture that celebrates and accelerates each student’s unique talents and potential." Chandler wrote in a press release
At Herbert Hoover Sinkler leads over 85 staff members and has 1,000 students from a wide variety of linguistic, economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. That school is highly complex as it serves students in two language immersion programs, three performing arts programs, the first STEAM program in SFUSD, AVID Excel, and AVID. Prior to becoming principal Sinkler served as a Mathematics Facilitator at Pacifica School District from 2010-2012 and a Program Administrator in Mathematics from 2008-2010. In these roles she chaired the Math Curriculum Plan, implemented extensive professional development on the shift to Common Core, and played an active role in devising the district strategic plan and LEA Plan for Program Improvement.
She was the ACSA Region 5's Administrator of the Year, San Francisco Mayor’s Principal of the Year, SFUSD Innovation Award (Cultivating a Culture of Creative Confidence through Design Thinking), and SFUSD Impact Award (Increasing Outcomes for ELs).
Sinkler has had a desire to live and work in the mountains and ready to use her passion and knowledge to lead STHS. She replaces Chad Houck who submitted his resignation in December, 2016.
She'd like to meet our special community and the first opportunity is on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Education Center, 1021 Al Tahoe Blvd., at 5:00 PM.
