Customers of Pier 1 received the notice Thursday that the company's South Lake Tahoe store on Emerald Bay Road will be closing. Moving in will be a store owned by Goodwill Industries.
Originally, Goodwill was issued a South Lake Tahoe business license at the same location from 7/2009 to 5/27/2011. The new license was issued on May 6, 2016.
Neither of the corporate offices for Pier 1 or Goodwill Industries have returned calls made by South Tahoe Now. At this time, the closing and opening dates are unknown.
The Goodwill website says they "work to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work." The company, founded in 1902, is known for donation drop off points, thrift store shopping and providing employment, job training and other community-based programs for people looking to advance their careers, build their skills and further their education.
Pier 1 currently has 20-30 percent off the entire store, and fixtures will all be sold.
