A tree caught on fire Monday afternoon after being struck by lightning. The tree and surrounding brush are still burning today and the fire has covered about one acre in steep terrain above Foothill Road in the Carson Valley southeast of Lake Tahoe.
Two engine crews hiked up to the fire and they are getting assistance from helicopter drops of water.
Fire officials kept an eye on the fire last night since hiking into the remote area was not safe for crews. They headed up the mountain Tuesday according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
