Motorists need to be aware of Caltrans roadwork that will affect travel to Donner Lake this summer. Overdue bridge painting and preservation work has closed Donner Lake Road under I-80 overcrossings.
This section of road will be closed until August 18.
Ramps to and from I-80 will remain open, allowing motorists to access the next available exit.
Motorists wishing to access Donner Lake Road from westbound I-80 should continue to the Castle Peak exit (#176) to reverse direction and use eastbound I-80 to reach the Donner Lake Road exit. Motorists coming from Donner Lake on Donner Lake Road who wish to travel westbound on I-80 should travel east to the Donner Pass Road exit (#184) to cross over and access westbound I-80.
Caltrans reminds motorists to use caution in and near work zones. Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans will issue traffic updates on this and other work occurring in District 3 on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict 3.
Visit Caltrans' “QuickMap” for current road conditions at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov. A mobile version is also available. Motorists also can use the California Highway Information Network automated phone service by calling 1-800-427-ROAD (7623). Motorists are urged to “Slow for the Cone Zone” and “Move Over” when safe to do so whenever flashing lights, first responders, or Caltrans workers are observed on the highway.
