Annika Sorenstam: "I think once you're a competitor you're always a competitor"

Golf fans know her from her 89 LGPA golf tournament victories, 10 major championships and total winnings over $22M. Celebrity Golf fans will soon find out how the retired golfer who had to "dust the rust off her clubs" will play at Edgewood in her first American Century Golf Tournament this weekend.

Favored to win the tournament, Sorenstam reminded those at a press conference Thursday that she hasn't played much since retiring, and while she has played under the Stableford method that isn't how she won so many tournaments during her career.

Sorenstam joked that she needed to be cautious in her playing as winning might prevent her being invited back to the Celebrity Golf tournament in the future. She also made sure everyone knew that if she happened to win, "certainly it's not going to change my mind and sign up for an LPGA event next week if that's what you were thinking."

The part time Lake Tahoe resident has husband Mike McGee as her caddy this weekend. She said that when they are at the Incline Village home she prefers boating and not golfing in the area.

"I would just say I'm very excited to be here, and when they asked me to play a few months ago, I was like, wow, what a fun thing to participate in," Sorenstam said. "The last few years I've been on the beach with friends on a boat. So now I get to walk on the grass." She was once part of the beach crowd at hole 17.

The tournament is at Edgewood Tahoe through Sunday. Tickets are $25 per person and available at the gate.
