Deputies identified in Douglas County officer involved shooting

The six Douglas County Sheriff's deputies involved in Thursday's shooting of an armed man have been identified.

The group has a total of 69 years of experience in law enforcement. They are (with rank and years of service):

Sergeant Dan Coverley, 18 years; Sergeant Dave Stanley, 13 years; Investigator Jon Storke, 13 years; Deputy Jeff Johnsen, 10 years; Deputy Matt Saylo, 9 years; and Deputy Justin Williams, 6 years.

They were responding to a 2 p.m. call at the Monument Peak Drive home of 48-year-old Mark Perkins. Perkins' wife called authorities to say her husband was armed with multiple weapons and had threatened her, that he was going to shoot a police officer and kill a neighbor.

After receiving an arrest warrant for Perkins and a search warrant for his home, S.W.A.T. and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) were activated due to the threat of shooting.

At 5:30 p.m., as members of the SWAT team were deploying to secure the suspect residence and evacuate surrounding homes, Perkins came out of his home armed and confronted the deputies. At some point during the confrontation Perkins pointed two weapons at multiple officers. The officers fired their weapons and Perkins was struck by the deputies gunfire and died at the scene.

The Deputies remain on routine paid administrative leave and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is still conducting the investigation.
