The next Douglas County Sheriff's Senior Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy will be held September 11-15, 2017.
Registration is now being accepted for those interested in attending the academy and learning about law enforcement. Students must be at least 50 years of age and residents of Douglas County.
The academy will teach participants about topics such as uniformed patrol procedures, jail and custody procedures, investigations, crime scene processing, along with gang and narcotics investigations. Information on volunteer opportunities and crime prevention methods, along with recent scam information will be a part of the curriculum.
The week-long academy takes place at the Minden Judicial Center located at 1038 Buckeye Road from 1:00 p.m. through 5:00 p.m. each day.
Sheriff Pierini is excited for the staff to continue to educate the seniors in the community. “We are always looking for ways to keep our seniors safe, and educating them is one of the ways.”
Sheriff Pierini will conclude the week with a graduation ceremony.
The class size is limited to 30 students. The academy is offered free of charge. Applicants must be willing to submit to a background investigation, and may not have been convicted of a felony.
Sign up by calling (775) 782-9900 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
