MEYERS, Calif. - Many people were without power for several hours overnight Sunday after a car driven by a suspected drunk driver collided with a power pole on North Upper Truckee Road just before midnight.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 24-year-old woman from Yerington, Nevada was heading south on the road about 200 feet north of its intersection with US50 when she ran into a power pole.
The crash caused the transformer on top of it to fall and burst open, spilling about 15 gallons of the mineral oil inside onto the road. First responders had to treat the spill as a Hazmat situation and close the road for cleanup.
Besides Liberty Utilities, AT&T and Charter were on the same pole, causing many residents to be without the three services. All of the companies were working Monday to get services restored to their customers according to CHP.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
