Fire Weather Watch Saturday in Lake Tahoe; Change in weather ahead
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/27/2018 - 1:07pm
A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Saturday, September 29 from noon to 8:00 p.m. Expect gusty winds and low humidity for the Lake Tahoe area. Winds will be from the south to southwest 15-25 mph with gusts to 40 mph in the valleys and on the slopes, gusts from 55 to 75 mph on the ridges.
Humidity will be 20-27 precent.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Warm days and cool nights with generally light winds will continue through Friday. A pattern change is expected to start Saturday with increasing winds and cooler temperatures. A low pressure moving slowly inland early next week will bring increasing chances for precipitation especially Tuesday into Wednesday, along with below average temperatures.
