The man who came forward after his picture was circulated as being a suspect in a sexual assault case has been cleared by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).
On September 23, 2015, SLTPD sought and obtained the public’s assistance in identifying the man whose picture is in this story. A woman had reported being sexually assaulted early in the morning of August 28 at a residence in South Lake Tahoe. She and the man had met only hours prior, so she could not positively identify him. The investigators did not release the photo earlier because early leads identified another person who was located, identified and cleared of any suspicion.
The unidentified man his photos in the media and voluntarily came to the police department regarding the investigation. As a result of that interview and subsequent follow up, the allegations made by the victim were unfounded.
No criminal charges will be filed in this case and the victim has been refereed to support services.
SLTPD thanks the community for its assistance in having this issue quickly resolved.
