Son and mother both dead after domestic dispute at Minden home

8 a.m. update 10/17/15: The shooter involved in Tuesday's domestic dispute has died, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) announced this morning.
A preliminary report shows that 27-year-old Jarek Kozlowski died of respiratory failure at the hospital October 16 at 7:40 p.m. DSCO said the report shows Kozlowski did not as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting incident.
4:00 p.m. update 10/13/15: The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has released the names of those involved in Tuesday's early morning shooting that left one dead in Minden, Nev.
Jarek Kozlowski, 27, produced a handgun and made threats to his mother, 50-year-old Michelle Kozlowski. Jarek’s younger brother Joseph, attempted to calm Jarek down and had him go outside. While outside Jarek put the handgun down at which time Joseph and Jarek became involved in a physical domestic fight. During this fight, Jarek grabbed the gun and began aiming it at Joseph who ran away from the residence.
Michelle then confronted Jarek, at which time he shot and killed her.
When deputies arrived, Jarek confronted the deputies at the door of the residence by firing rounds at the deputies. Deputies returned fire striking Jarek. No deputies were injured during this incident.
Jarek then ran from the residence over the back fence. Deputies located Jarek who had serious injuries and took him into custody. Jarek was transported to the hospital.
The gun has been recovered from the scene. The investigation continues.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1200 block of Manhattan Way in Minden early Tuesday morning for a reported domestic violence call with shots fired.
At approximately 1:24 a.m., deputies responded and upon arrival found a woman who hehad been fatally shot in the street. While attempting to make contact at the residence, deputies encountered the suspect who began shooting at the deputies. After the exchange of gunfire the suspect fled after being shot. None of the deputies were struck by gun fire.
The suspect was later found and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until the family has been notified.
No other information will be released at this time.
