SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) sent out a notice to staff and families Sunday night to inform them of two new positive cases of COVID-19 in the district.

One student at Sierra House Elementary and one at the Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School post tested positive and all close contacts have been notified and are isolating at home as recommended by Public Health. Previously a student at Bijou Community School received a positive test result.

If you have not been notified, there is nothing you need to do at this time but continue to monitor your health and follow recommendations including wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, and socially distancing.

Please contact your school nurse or your health care provider if you have any questions regarding exposure to someone with COVID-19, if you have any symptoms of illness, or you or a family member is told to isolate at home by Public Health.

School nurses are working diligently to ensure that students are sent home immediately with any signs of illness. They remind parents to screen themselves and their children daily.

If any staff or student is exhibiting any of the following symptoms, staying home is a requirement of LTUSD:

Fever Greater than 100.4

Headache
Cough
Congestion/Runny Nose

"The health and safety of our students and staff is a priority, as we enter the holiday season, please remember social distancing, wearing a mask, washing your hands, and not gathering in large groups is critical to mitigating the spread of the virus. Please note that viral spread is on the rise across the United States, California, and South Lake Tahoe. Governor Newsom issued a travel advisory on Friday. For those of you who are planning to travel it is important to maintain health and safety measures that will keep our schools and community open. Thank you all for practicing social responsibility that will keep your colleague, your classmate, and your neighbor safe and healthy," said the District's Health Services Department in the email to families.
