Ski resorts reporting up to 24" of snow, chain controls on all roads this morning

As people starts to dig out from an overnight storm, holiday travelers will be heading home while others hit the slopes. Expect traffic to be slow over Echo Summit.

Heavenly Mountain Resort: 9" of snow in the last 24 hours. The resort will have 1 percent of the mountain open: 35/4800 acres, 5/28 lifts open, 5/97 runs open.

Kirkwood: 14" of snow in the last 24 hours. The resort will have 3 percent of their terrain open: 60/2300 acres, 3/15 lifts and 6/86 runs.

Sierra at Tahoe: 16" (base) to 24"(summit) of snow in the last 24 hours. They will have 4 lifts and 3 trails open.

Sunday's weather report: Scattered snow showers before 10am. Cloudy through mid morning, then becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 20 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Upper elevations/ski resorts may see 1" to 3".

Sunday night: 50 percent chance of snow after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Hwy 50 - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels from Meyers to Sand Point/Kyburz. Chains or snow tires from Stateline, over Spooner Summit.

SR 89 - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels from Markleville to Woodfords, over Luther Pass to Christmas Valley, and from the Y to Bliss State Park.

SR 88 - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels from 9 miles east of Pine Grove to 3.5 miles west of Woodfords.

SR 207 - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels over Kingsbury Grade.
