LTUSD to remain on distance learning through at least January 8

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) announced late Wednesday that they will be staying on distance learning until at least January 8, 2021.

Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the area, District officials said they are concerned for the health and safety of staff and students. With Winter Break starting December 21 they said the likelihood of a significant decrease in community spread before then. School will not be in session until January 4.

"As you are aware, COVID-19 cases in our community continue to impact our community and the case rate for the Lake Tahoe Region is alarmingly high as reported by El Dorado County Public Health. This only reinforces the need to continue in distance learning at this time. However, looking to the future, it is the hope that with the community’s vigilance in taking precautions to prevent the spread, our numbers will begin to trend down," said the District in an email to parents.

LTUSD said in-person instruction remains our goal.

"In collaboration with EDC Public Health and EDC Office of Education, we will continue to monitor local and county data, and will plan to report to staff and families on or before January 3, 2020 as to next steps. It is the hope that we can return to the hybrid schedule for grades TK-8 on January 11, 2020.," their email said.

In accordance with California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, South Tahoe High School will likely not be able to start hybrid until El Dorado County has been in the Red Tier designation for at least two weeks.
