Release of Dejon Smith's autopsy report delayed until Friday

As South Tahoe Now reported on Wednesday, the autopsy on Dejon Smith was completed in Sacramento and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department was going to release the results Thursday. Out of respect for Smith's family they have delayed that until Friday.

"No exigency exists which would override common compassion to the family in terms of honoring their request to delay the public dissemination of this information immediately," said Sgt. Brian Williams of SLTPD told South Tahoe Now. "Their loss is our own loss, as South Lake Tahoe is a small and closely connected community. We share in their grief and loss."

Williams said Dejon's parents were terribly affected by the discussion they had with the police Thursday. "They felt that this information was a private matter, and pleaded with our detectives not to release the information right away." Williams said. "They asked for time to process their grief."

The police department is confident this matter is an act of nature and no threat to the public exists in terms of unidentified criminal suspects related to this event.
