South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue personnel were called out to the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) after a pipe burst in the ceiling on Christmas Day at 4:00 p.m. Damage was kept to ceiling tiles with some minor water damage to walls of a hallway.
BGCLT was able to open Tuesday as they were able to have the kids access classrooms from the outside instead of the affected hallway.
The pipe that burst leads to the boiler.
"We stayed open today while LTUSD (Lake Tahoe Unified School District) came in to clean up water, fix the heater, and take down the tiles from the ceiling that had water damage," said Kelly Giardina, BGCLT Director of Operations.
The water damage is isolated to one part of the hallway and most of it is superficial according to Giardina.
There are 150 kids signed up for BGCLT during winter break, with a waiting list of 60 kids. They are operating Tuesday through Friday this week and next.
Giardina said she hopes the cleanup is done tomorrow so they can access the whole building.
