Join and track steps in the Billion Step Challenge

How many steps can you take in 97 days? Almost a million?

Join El Dorado County's team in the 1 Billion Steps Challenge which tracks participant's steps through apps from January 1 to April 8, 2018.

The challenge is through the American Public Health's Associations (APHA) who are encouraging Americans to get out and walk, roll and get moving. Register at https://stridekick.com/tc/apha18 and have your steps logged. You don't even have to do anything once registered (except walk, run and move, of course)...your phone or other fitness tracker will communicate with the challenge.

“Fitness should be fun! This challenge is a great way to kick-start the New Year with a little friendly competition,” said El Dorado County Health Officer, Dr. Nancy Williams. “One out of every two U.S. adults is living with a chronic disease, such as heart disease, cancer or diabetes. Increasing physical activity levels is one of the most important actions people can take to improve their overall health,” Williams added.

Step-conversion charts found online can be used to convert numerous activity types into steps. In addition, participants have the ability to see their activity trends and patterns through the Stridekick dashboard.

El Dorado County’s Health and Human Services Agency has created a team, “Walking to Well Dorado,” and is challenging all residents to join this team, or to create their own teams to compete as groups of friends, organizations, or even whole communities!
