Diamond Peak Ski Resort on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is the home mountain for a January 7-8, 2012, ski camp hosted by legendary skier Wayne Wong.
The camp begins with an evening “meet and greet” at Village Ski Loft in Incline Village on January 6 and then continues with two full days of on snow instruction at Diamond Peak.
The camp called, “Learn Right from Wong” will focus on a ski technique known as drifting. Drifting is a skill where the skis are allowed to drift into a turn then put on edge later in the turn radius. This technique is useful in controlling speed and maintaining the ski’s relation to the fall line. Camp is $575 per person and includes breakfast and lunch both days at Diamond Peak, dinner on Saturday evening, lift tickets, video analysis, Anton demo skis, a free camp souvenir and two fun-filled days of instruction from one of the most renowned skiers in the world.
Wayne Wong is among the earliest pioneers in Freestyle Skiing, he honed his skills at a young age and at just 22 years old he earned the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) highest certification level. His electrifying and innovative style of skiing at the inaugural National Championships of Exhibition Skiing in 1971 launched him into 3rd place finish. The following year Wayne Wong went on to win every “Stunt and Ballet” competition he entered. With these impressive results, he captured the first ever Freestyle Skier of the Year award.
In 1975 he was chosen as a member of the CSIA’s Interski Team, where he presented freestyle skiing to the International Skiing Congress. His unique style that includes an ever present smile and signature moves, including the legendary “wong-banger” made Wayne Wong’s name synonymous with Freestyle skiing, as a result, he was named as one of the “48 Greatest Skiers Of Our Time,” in Powder Magazine’s 35th anniversary issue and has been named to the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame. Wayne Wong continues to make skiing his life and passion and at present is instrumental in research and development of the Anton ski system that is revolutionizing ski technology.
“Learn Right from Wong” has limited space available and advance reservations are required. For more information visit www.diamondpeak.com. To see the new Anton ski technology visit www.antonskis.com.
