June 2, 2018 - 10:00am Author Nancy Raven will speak on her book A Postal Journey: Discovering Nevada Through Its Post Offices at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, June 2, at 10:00 am.
Upon Nancy Raven’s arrival in Nevada, a friend suggested Raven travel the state photographing each town, which she refined to Nevada’s post offices. Raven’s quest took her to every corner of Nevada, with her photographs, her art work and a song becoming the book A Postal Journey: Discovering Nevada Through Its Post Offices.

August 6, 2017 - 10:00am Author Bonnie Boice Nishikawa will speak on her book Nevada State Orphans/Children’s Home: My Life as a “Home” Kid at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, August 6, at 10:00 am.
The Nevada State Orphans Home at Carson City was authorized in 1869 by the legislature with construction beginning the same year. The first child was admitted in October of 1870.

December 20, 2014 - 10:30am Friends of the library are excited to present, "Gertrude’s Tahoe Adventures in Time", a children’s book about the natural history of Lake Tahoe. With colorful and dramatic illustrations the book tells the story of Gertrude, a Tahoe girl who meets a magic maiden who takes her on a fast motion adventure through the history of Lake Tahoe. They watch glaciers march, volcanoes erupt and exotic animals graze while becoming forever friends.

September 20, 2014 - 11:00am Mark McLaughlin, award-winning, nationally published author, professional speaker, and photographer returns to the SLT Library with the compelling presentation: The History of Lake Tahoe and the Comstock.
The 1859 discovery of silver in western Nevada and the development of the Comstock brought entrepreneurs of all types to the region. It also brought disastrous consequences for the Tahoe basin and its environment. But one timber baron was a visionary who saw beyond the denuded lake-side slopes to dream of a paradise for tourists and nature lovers.

Author to Speak about Yosemite's 150th at SLT

September 23, 2014 - 6:00pm Author and Sierra Nevada Native, Gary D. Noy, returns with his newest book, "Sierra Stories: Tales of Dreamers, Schemers, Bigots, and Rogues." This interesting collection highlights unusual or lesser-known stories of the Sierra Nevada experience with the focus of this presentation being the Yosemite Valley Grant Act of 1864, which brought the valley under government control and is considered the beginning of the California State Park system. This year is the 150th anniversary of that event. The legislation was introduced by an El Dorado County resident, John Conness.

Romano will speak from experience about today’s most vital issues: how to live with purpose and how to protect our food supply. He will also be taking questions about farming and gardening in the Sierra.
