Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?
Move it online, of course.

California Tahoe Conservancy moves forward with Conolley Beach project

During their October meeting, the CTC Board voted to spend up to $420,000 on the "Conolley Beach Public Access Project" for the execution of easements and other agreements to build stairs to the beach, construct a trail, add seating areas and stabilize the slope with boulders.

New plan for State Route 89 being developed to alleviate traffic, improve access

Along the plan area are popular areas to view scenery, hike, bike and visit beaches along a 12 mile stretch of undeveloped shoreline. Some residential neighborhoods also rest along this area.

Off-duty firefighters save life of man who fell off kayak in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/15/2018 - 11:15amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 22-year-old South Lake Tahoe man is alive today thanks to efforts of rescuers who were on the beach of Tahoe Beach Retreat on Thursday, May 10, when he went underwater after being on a kayak.
At 2:46 p.m., a call was made to 911 about a drowning man in the lake. When the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department arrived three minutes later, two off-duty firemen were on the scene already, along with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

Sierra-at-Tahoe ready for concession at Lakeview Commons
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/17/2018 - 8:46pmThe South Lake Tahoe City Council today finalized Sierra-at-Tahoe as the concessionaire at Lakeview Commons for the next three summers.
There were some issues with the RFP (request for proposal) as the ski resort, as well as others who responded, thought alcohol sales were part of the agreement. They did their forecasts based on sales, but since the concession is at a city park and there is no alcohol allowed on city property, there was discussion on how to make it work for all parties.

EDC Supervisors to vote on purchase of old Bijou Post Office for new office space

During the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, there will be a vote on the agenda item regarding purchase of the property for $1,250,000. Supervisor Sue Novasel said they have been putting money aside to be used in an El Dorado Center Campus in South Lake Tahoe. The project includes a major remodel of both buildings.

After Tuesday's normally scheduled 9:00 a.m. meeting, they will move to the Tahoe Beach Retreat & Lodge for an evening Cannabis Workshop to discuss upcoming regulations concerning the sales of adult-use cannabis in South Lake Tahoe. They moved to the larger venue due to expected participation.
On February 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., members of the public can give their input on what an ordinance concerning the sales of cannabis in city limits should look like. Besides council members there will also be representative of the Planning Commission and Cannabis Subcommittee.

Scenes of the show were shot at several Lake Tahoe locations, including Valhalla Tahoe, Hard Rock Hotel Tahoe and Edgewood Tahoe, and they'll all be hosting parties for the show! Valhalla's party will be at Sidelines Sports Pub at the Beach Retreat and Lodge, the Edgewood Party will be at their Brooks' Bar & Grill and the Hard Rock Party is in Vinyl.
LTCC awarded $500k for culinary pre-apprenticeship program
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/20/2017 - 10:34pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is one of just a handful of educational providers in the state to win a $500,000 grant from the California Apprenticeship Initiative (CAI) to help build and launch culinary pre-apprenticeship programs in South Lake Tahoe. LTCC was recently notified of the award, which will be used to help better prepare South Lake Tahoe’s workforce and to improve local residents’ ability to secure in-demand jobs and progress to higher-wage careers in the Tahoe Basin.
Power outage hits South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley

NV Energy is reporting a few power outages to their customers starting at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. At the lake, 4,385 customers are affected, with another 3,300 in the Carson Valley. NV Energy states the problem is from equipment failure and they expect to have power restored by 10:00 p.m.
Beach Retreat turns into Winter Wonderland

Walk through the grounds and look at their lights and holiday decor that cover every inch of the resort and stay on display until mid-January. All Winter Wonderland events are family friendly, and some are even pet-friendly. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all events.

3rd annual Blizzardfest Pray for Snow Party

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Blizzardfest 2017 returns to the South Shore on Saturday, November 4 at noon at the Tahoe Beach Retreat's 3rd annual Pray For Snow Party. Even if it is snowing, join in the fun to encourage another strong winter.
All of the fun will be under the tent on the beach until 10:00 p.m. Not only is the public invited, but so are four-legged family members.
