National Night Out makes a return to the South Shore on Tuesday, October 6 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Tahoe Paradise Park.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office will be hosting the event along with other first responders and specialty teams including the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the county's Search and Rescue team.
There will be department swag for the kids and informative booths. It was originally planned as a drive through event but that has been changed to one kids and families can walk through.

The fence is up around the parking lot at MontBleu Resort, and the first shovels of dirt were moved during a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.

Governor outlines guidelines for reopening Nevada with phase one Saturday
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/07/2020 - 4:39pmNevada Governor Steve Sisolak has unveiled his plan for the state to reopen under phase one starting May 9, 2020. Outdoor malls, restaurants, hair salons, and barber shops are among those able to reopen with new standards for safety.
"We must stay safe so we can stay open," said Sisolak of the ability to move into phase 2 by the end of May, or sooner.
"The beginning of the reopening of our economy is not the end of the coronavirus," said Sisolak during a press conference Thursday afternoon. "It's still with us, as strong as ever. It will not go away until there's a vaccine."
LTCC to cancel outside use of facilities and implements policies to limit COVID-19 spread
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/13/2020 - 7:28amLake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is committed to helping mitigate the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and to take measures to keep staff and students safe. With that in mind, effective immediately LTCC is canceling all community events and outside group meetings planned for on campus to help reduce the chance of exposure and spread. Furthermore, LTCC is canceling all non-essential travel for LTCC employees. These are measures designed to reduce (but not eliminate) the risk of exponential community spread of COVID-19. These measures will be in effect until further notice.
Day of the Young Child to be held in South Lake Tahoe -Canceled

There will be booths, kids' activities, games and child information provided by several groups. Other sponsors for the fun-filled day are First 5, Kiwanis, South Tahoe Refuse, and EDCOE.
Free lunch will be served to children.
The Recreation Center is located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
El Dorado County Income Support programs in South Lake Tahoe moving into new home

The County announced earlier this year they had purchased the old post office at 3368 Sandy Way in order to move offices over from across the street as a "new campus" is created for services.

Celebrate the annual fall migration of the Kokanee salmon at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on SR-89.
The Fall Fish Festival focuses on a variety of fish species that live in Lake Tahoe and its rivers. In addition to the Kokanee, these species include the federally threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout and little-known smaller fish, such as speckled dace.

The race, presented by Epic Tahoe Adventures (ETA), sends the runners past the spectacular scenery of many of Tahoe’s east and south shore treasures including Glenbrook, Logan Shoals, Cave Rock, Round Hill Pines, Nevada Beach, and Rabe Meadow. Since 2011, TRPA has awarded the Lake Spirit Awards to individuals from both the North and South Shores who are either citizens or agency representatives/environmental scientists.
Building trails, promoting climate change awareness, organizing beach cleanups, and preserving cultural resources are some of the ways this year’s award winners show their dedication to Lake Tahoe.

Christine and her husband Williams have opened Crazy Good Bakery and Cafe inside the old Grass Roots Natural Foods store and the community response has been, well, crazy.
The life-long visitor to Lake Tahoe moved from Pacifica, California to South Lake Tahoe seven years ago with her husband and took the leap to open a bakery six months ago when they signed the lease at the building at the "Y" at 2040 Dunlap Drive.

Booths were set up by California Highway Patrol, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Barton Heath, California Conservation Corps, South Lake Tahoe Action Team, El Dorado County STAR, El Dorado County Sheriff's Search & Rescue, South Lake Tahoe Drug Free Coalition and the El Dorado County Animal Shelter.
Food was provided by Kiwanis.
The event was also a toy drop off for Toys For Tots.

Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program. Will’s Kids will take place on Friday, August 3rd W:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Valhalla Tahoe Estate. The performance begins at noon.

Several area agencies have teamed up with South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue to participate in the 5th annual Wildfire Safety Expo in the TJ Maxx parking lot at the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, June 9 from noon to 3:00 p.m.
Learn about how planning is the most important tool in staying safe during a wildfire, including creating defensible space and having a home evacuation plan.
There will be informational booths, refreshments and fun activities for the whole family. KRLT-FM will be broadcasting live and Smokey the Bear will be making an appearance.

This popular rite of passage features the required Oktoberfest and fall inspired brews as well as activities for the whole family from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Admission and parking are free, and festival goers are encouraged to take advantage of the free bike valet in front of the Mountain Sports Center. Admission is free and the event is a great opportunity for families to have fun while learning about safety and conservation.

Celebrate the migration of the Kokanee salmon during the annual Fall Fish Fest at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center in South Lake Tahoe October 7-8.
From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day walk the famous Rainbow Trail as nature is celebrated with the dramatic and colorful spawning behaviors of the salmon. Get a close-up look at this natural display is available in Taylor Creek and the Stream Profile Chamber.

Canada's CF-18 Demo Team has just been added to this year's lineup at the Minden-Tahoe Airport's Aviation Roundup to be held October 7-8, 2017. They join an impressive group of teams and performers including the USAF Thunderbirds, US Army Golden Knights, US Navy Tac Demo Team, Greg Koontz & the Alabama Boys, Rob Holland, Jacquie B, Bob Carlton, Smoke N Thunder and other fighter jets.
Besides the action in the air there will be numerous attractions accessible to the public including a wide variety of items for sale and informational booths, over 70 in all.

"Tastes from Around the World" was the them of the event where volunteers staffed booths which the students rotated through during the day.
STHS photographers tops in state-wide contests

Guadalupe Ruiz and Tristan Klasko received recognition for their first-place award winning photographs submitted to the California Streaming Photo Contest sponsored by the California County Offices of Education. They each won a camera, tripod and other gifts. Their award winning photos will be used on a calendar distributed to teachers across the state.
