SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - The 5th annual Sierra House Farmers' Market was held during school on Wednesday, giving the students a hands-on demonstration on how whole and healthy food can be produced, prepared and enjoyed together.
"Tastes from Around the World" was the them of the event where volunteers staffed booths which the students rotated through during the day.
The elementary school is home to two "grow domes" where students can grow their own organic vegetables for school lunches. Students will also use the domes to study soils, verimculture and aquaponics as well as using the process to study math, science and language arts. Mint grown in the domes was presented to retiring Lake Tahoe Unified School District staff members Tuesday evening.
