Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/16/2018 - 6:19pm
Event Date:
September 22, 2018 - 9:00am
The public is invited to celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) with the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) and our partners at Nevada Beach Pavilion on Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The LTBMU and Tahoe Recreation will host this free community event, which provides an opportunity for the public to connect and engage with volunteers and organizations to learn how to best enjoy and protect our public lands.
Event highlights include the 21st Annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day coordinated by the League to Save Lake Tahoe. Volunteers are invited to this fun, hands on restoration day that will include planting willow stakes in nearby Burke Creek, surveying for aquatic invasive plants, trash removal and more! All ages are welcome and no previous experience or skills are required. For more information about Stewardship Day, visit www.keeptahoeblue.org/news/events or email events@keeptahoeblue.org.
The event will also feature an appearance by Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl, informational booths, fire prevention exhibits, and much more! Tentative participants include the American Conservation Experience, California Conservation Corp, Desolation Wilderness Volunteers, Great Basin Institute, Lake Tahoe Water Trail, League to Save Lake Tahoe, National Forest Foundation, Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, Tahoe Heritage Foundation and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of NPLD, which was established by the National Environmental Education Foundation, and has grown from just a handful of volunteers to over a quarter of a million participants. NPLD is the largest, single-day volunteer event that takes place on public lands across the country and is an excellent opportunity for the public to work side-by-side with public land managers and their partners on activities that range from trail maintenance, planting trees to picking up trash and more. Learn more about NPLD at www.neefusa.org/npld.
Parking at Nevada Beach will be free all day during NPLD.
For more information, contact the LTBMU at 530-543-2600, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
