Lake Tahoe Unified School District moves back to all distance learning
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/18/2020 - 5:23pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to the continued dramatic rise of COVID-19 cases in the community, Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) has moved all schools and programs to distance learning starting Thursday, November 19.
A significant number of staff members currently have COVID-19 or have been in direct contact with a confirmed positive individual.
Back to School for some in South Lake Tahoe on Monday
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/10/2020 - 2:38pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - School in South Lake Tahoe hasn't been held in-person since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will start the process of getting kids back into the classroom on Monday, October 12.
They will make the shift from Phase 1 to Phase 2 and a hybrid schedule with elementary students attending either Monday and Tuesday (Cohort A) or on Thursday and Friday (Cohort B), all days with a four-hour schedule. The rest of the time will be distance learning.
Tahoe Women's Community Fund selects awardees of $125,000 in grants

This year they received applications for grants from over 50 organizations. Of that group, 11 non-profits on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe have been chosen to receive $125,000 that will be distributed.
Inspiration Grant Recipient:
• Boys & Girls Club of South Lake Tahoe (Building Bright Futures – $40,000)
Focus Grant Recipients in the category of Poverty, Housing, or Basic Needs):
• St. Theresa’s Parish (Bread and Broth 4 Kids: Push for Protein – $15,000)
Costume bingo night fundraiser at South Lake Brewing for Tahoe Climbing Coalition

The Tahoe Climbing Coalition is partnering with South Lake Brewing Co for a Bingo Night on July 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All funds raised with go to the new coalition's new program, Climb Up, one that targets low-income, at-risk youth through scholarship and mentorship.
70s style costumes are highly encouraged. Dinner will be available for purchase from Chicken in a Barrel.
Tahoe Chamber event brings in $2,550 and food for Bread and Broth
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/23/2018 - 2:16pmThe Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce's annual Connect for a Cause on January 18 had a great turnout from the community, bring in both cash and food donations for Bread and Broth.
Over 100 people attended the charity mixer at Riva Grill and they enjoyed appetizers and Riva Grill’s signature cocktail, Wet Woodies during the event.
Bread and Broth serves the community with weekly food giveaways and two hot meals a week, and their Bread and Broth 4 Kids programs gives over 170 South Lake Tahoe children in grades K-8 a backpack of weekend food.

Now that South Tahoe and Whittell High Schools had their homecoming games Friday night, the rest of the weekend can be filled with everything from helping feed local youth, buying mattresses or playing golf for the high school, honoring one of the City's first leaders and enjoying the annual Fire Fest.

This free summer food program is bringing smiles and excitement to local children as they pick and choose their favorite breakfast, fruits, snacks and dinner foods from the baskets full for food at St. Theresa Grace Hall every Wednesday. The biggest smiles come from the special treats of ice cream, cupcakes or chocolate chip cookies that the Bread & Broth and Vail Resort volunteers give to each child as they finish filling their bags.
Cram-a-Cruiser to fill shelves for children's food program

The semi-annual Cram-A-Cruiser Day will be held at the Grocery Outlet at 2358 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, October 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Cram-A-Cruiser day encourages the community to fill up a South Lake Tahoe police cruiser with food to be given to children at local schools who need nutrition over the weekend when the LTUSD free lunch program doesn't cover meals.
South Lake Tahoe community takes care of each other during holidays

Here are some of the many Santas who've been busy at work:
The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge and Women of the Moose filled up 40 boxes with hams and food for families at Tahoe Valley Elementary school. The students decorated the boxes.

Many in the community are already familiar with Bread & Broth, a group of volunteers that serves hot food to those in need on Mondays and emergency bags of food.
