Erosion from a high water level in Lake Tahoe has prompted closure of El Dorado Beach at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe.

It's time for week two of the summer-long music series on the beach in South Lake Tahoe, Live at Lakeview.

On Thursday, June 28 from 4:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m., music will fill the shores at Lakeview Commons as two Tennessee artists perform.

Jack Berry, an artist with “a voice that could scare the venom out of a rattlesnake,” as Consequence of Sound describes it, makes his Live at Lakeview debut this Thursday. This Nashville-based alt/blues rocker happens to
originally be from Reno, Nevada so his headlining show is both a homecoming and a debut.

The Meeks Bay Fire Protection District is holding their 50th annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8 from 8:00 a.m. to noon each day.

This is a hearty breakfast spread (pancakes, sausage, applesauce) that supports local California State Parks and the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District. T-shirts and raffle items available for purchase. Smokey the Bear will be there as well as fire prevention activities.

The pancake breakfast will take place at their fire house, located at 8041 Hwy 89 in Meeks Bay.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Additional victims from the Pequenos Rascals Learning Center have come forward in the child sexual assault case against one of the licensees, David Rodriguez-Flores. Sr.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department, (SLTPD) received information on June 15 of an on-going possible child sexual assault that had occurred at the child care center located at 3336 Sandy Way. Multiple victims came forward and reported a pattern of abuse dating back at least two years.

Valhalla Tahoe is presenting Broadway in Blue starting July 5 and running two weekends. The show, a revue of contemporary and classic Broadway tunes performed by some of Lake Tahoe’s best singing and acting talent, was created by Gabriella Giocomo especially for Valhalla. Giocomo was one of three finalists in Valhalla’s WordWave One-Act play script competition in 2017. When she came for the stage reading hosted at the Boathouse Theatre she was inspired by the space and submitted the show in the winter of 2018 for review by Valhalla.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College is excited to present its annual scholarship awards to 81 deserving students at a special luncheon taking place on Friday, June 29 – the same day as the college’s graduation ceremony. The 2017/2018 academic year was a record-breaking year of scholarship fundraising for the LTCC Foundation, with generous donors supporting the granting of 120 awards amounting to more than $126,000.

An old, closed motel in the Kings Beach Town Center will be transformed into condominiums after the California Tahoe Conservancy Board yesterday approved the sale and transfer of up to two residential development rights (RDRs) needed for the project.

Located on Beach Street and State Route 28, the transfer will facilitate the Woodvista Redevelopment Project which will create seven units in three buildings, including 2 two-story triplex residential structures. They already had five of the needed RDRs.

Each RDR goes for $5,000.

The annual Art, Wine and Music Festival will return to The Village at Squaw Valley on July 14 and 15, celebrating its 17th anniversary. The epic clarity of Lake Tahoe was measured at an average of 59.7 feet in 2017, a 9.5 foot drop from the previous year and 10.3 feet lower than the five-year average according to the annual report compiled by the Tahoe Environmental Research Center at the University of California, Davis.

This measurement surpasses the previous lowest level of 64.1 feet which was recorded in 1997, but far below the record high of over 100 feet in the mid-1960s.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An El Dorado County jury of five women and seven men deliberated about two hours Wednesday, coming back with a quick verdict in the case of Nolen Keith Buchanan, the Benicia, California teen that had been accused of killing his family and setting their cabin on fire to cover his tracks.

Two South Lake Tahoe men were arrested during a recent "Bait Bike" sting operation conducted in the 3900 block of Pioneer Trail.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) detectives and officers arrested the men after a bike owned by SLTPD was placed in a public place. Within minutes of the bike's placement, it was stolen.

Arrested for Grand Theft were Joel Morris, 27, and Ramon Saldana Madrigal, 36.

California residents yesterday voted to pass Proposition 68, approving a $4 billion investment to protect the state’s unique natural resources and provide protections from the growing threat of climate change.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For four months, Fire Chief Jeff Meston worked as the City's acting city manager, and today he was recognized for his extra service.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, Meston was awarded with a certificate of appreciation from the Council for taking on the duties from February 7, 2018 to June 5, 2018.

“Chief Meston is not only recognized statewide but also nationally for his numerous accomplishments in the fire world. He took on the duty of Acting City Manager 100% and with grace, with intellect, with wisdom and with experience,” said Mayor Wendy David.

The California primary is on Tuesday, June 5, and a lot of decisions are facing voters in South Lake Tahoe both at the county and district level, as well as at the state level.

California changed their primary system ten years ago for the top offices and now it is the two candidates with the most votes on Tuesday that will head to the November elections, no matter which party they belong to. Prior to this system it would be the top democrat and top republican that would face off.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With an increase in the number of dead and dying trees in the Lake Tahoe region, Liberty Utilities has tripled the number of inspectors they use to identify trees that pose a risk to the utility’s infrastructure. The inspection program and subsequent removal of hazardous trees are designed to reduce the risk of power outages, potential wildfires, and to comply with State regulations.

Placer County health officials have confirmed that a man who died on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe tested positive for hantavirus.

They said the resident likely contracted the virus from rodents in a private residence in the Lake Tahoe region where the resident lived and worked. Health officials do not believe the public is at ongoing risk from the source of infection associated with the fatality.
