Proposals will be accepted at the Nevada Division of State Parks office until March 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. PST.
Fundraising campaign underway to add dog water station in Rabe Meadow

In cooperation with Douglas County, the U.S. Forest Service and Lake Tahoe Planning and Permitting LLC, Liz Lawton would like to raise the funds necessary to purchase and install a doggie drinking fountain and water bottle filling station. It would be located at the trailhead near the intersection of Kahle Drive and US50 by the restrooms.

Kicking off in late November for Small Business Saturday, the holiday contest recorded $39,134 in spending at local restaurants and retailers through January 1st, a 291 percent increase from the 2019 contest.
Law enforcement prepares for possible New Year's Eve crowds on South Shore

With no SnowGlobe this year due to the pandemic, and Heavenly Village New Year's Eve activities canceled, it is unknown as to what will take place in an area that at one time saw 50,000 people in the streets to bring in the new year. Last year it was estimated 7,000 to 8,000 people took to the streets at midnight at Stateline and 6,500 at Heavenly Village for its 9:00 p.m. fireworks.

Douglas County DA gets dismissal of OSHA violations surrounding Trump visit

They were both issued following his visit at the Minden-Tahoe Airport since the visit was during Governor Sisolak's emergency order that prohibited public gatherings of more than 50 people.
The State of Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Nevada OSHA) has agreed to dismiss the two citations after they were formerly contested by the Douglas County District Attorney who represented both parties charge, the County and ABS Aviation, Inc.
Elves stop by the South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial Tree
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/13/2020 - 5:32pmThe Elves did it again!! They visited the South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial Tree in the park at Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Wildwood Avenue for the tenth straight year, leaving behind signs of Christmas with stockings and decorations.
There is a stocking at the tree for the over 240 children who are memorialized there.
The memorial was created 29 years ago when tragedy struct the local community when South Tahoe High students Rory Hrbacek, Sandy Haynes, and Casey Wells died in an vehicle accident on Pioneer Trail.
Vail Resorts contributes $25,000 to Clean Up The Lake campaign

Lucky Beaver Bar and Burger Toy Drive for Christmas Cheer a big success

Christmas Cheer, the South Lake Tahoe nonprofit that helps feed locals in need all year was also in need of toys to help bring joy during such trying times. Tom Davis of Christmas Cheer joined up with Murin and other community members to organize the event which brought toys from far and wide to Lake Tahoe on December 6.

South Lake Tahoe Hosted Rental Ordinance back to staff for revisions

After much discussion they decided to have staff clean up rules that could be potential loopholes for homeowners and/or tenants. This is the second time a first reading has been turned down for more fine tuning.
The following changes were added for Council to review October 20:
(1) Increase the required tenancy for a tenant to qualify as a hosted rental applicant from six months to two years;

Last week, Luca Genasci made an announcement on social media that he would be discontinuing his campaign. Citing a growing workload with a new business opening, Genasci said did not have "ample time" to dedicate to his new fiancé, family, friends, businesses and local politics.
Genasci owns Lake Tahoe Aleworx with two locations at Stateline and the Y, and a new bar, the Cocktail Corner, next door to the Y location in The Crossing at Tahoe Valley.

Sales of flavored tobaccos and vape juices banned in California
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/31/2020 - 11:08amBlue Raz Cotton Candy, Peach Green Tea, Pink Spot and Frozen Lime Drop are just a few of the names of flavored tobacco that will no longer be allowed on the shelves in California after Governor Newsom signed SB793 Friday. The bill was created to stop kids from getting addicted to tobacco and vaping and is an addition to existing law, the Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement (STAKE) Act.
The bill takes effect Jan. 1, 2021.
The ban includes the sale of everything from menthol cigarettes to e-cigarette flavors, including pods for vape pens, tank-based systems, and chewing tobacco.

Since we shared Maeson's story on Monday, many had asked how they can help the family. Maeson attends Lake Tahoe Environmental Magnet School and lives with his parents and sister in Christmas Valley.

The event is normally held in June and was moved to September due to the rise in COVID-19, and now the new date is June 5, 2021.
