Big fish caught at Lake Tahoe

This report is for the week of Dec. 12-18. We want to note a big fish caught by Eric St. Denis of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., pictured above. Eric caught a 28-pound, 9-ounce Mackinaw trout at Lake Tahoe on Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. Photos courtesy of Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters.
The Lake Tahoe record for Mackinaw Trout is a 37-pound, 6-ounce (44 inches in length) trophy caught by Robert Aronsen, way back in 1974. To date, only a handful of Macks have been caught that have weighed 30 pounds or more.

Woman recovering from frostbite after six nights in Hope Valley

Gardnerville resident Paula Lane, 46, and boyfriend Roderick Paul Clifton, 44, were reported missing after they left Citrus Heights, Calif., on the afternoon of Nov. 29.
On Wednesday, Lane was found along Burnside Lake Road by her brother, who took a frontloader from a nearby state transportation shed and drove up the road.
Lane is at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center recovering after she arrived there 9 p.m. Wednesday.

CHP still cannot confirm whether the couple, Roderick Clifton and Paula Lane, has been found. Sergeant Joe Sherry just saying he was notified at 8:30pm Wednesday night that, " A female subject had made contact with somebody at Sorenson's Resort. She had said that they were in a collision. I don't have a name on her."
Fog settles in Lake Tahoe and nearby valleys through the morning

The National Weather Service in Reno reports visibility could drop below one mile with a few areas of dense fog and visibility below 1/4 of a mile early Thursday morning. Fog will begin to burn off after 8 a.m., and may linger in a few valleys until 11 a.m.
Tahoe Fund Presents $12,850 Check for Key Segment of Lake Tahoe Bikeway

The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund presented a $12,850 check today to the Tahoe Transportation District for the Rabe Meadow Bike Path, a key segment of the proposed new bike and pedestrian route around Lake Tahoe called the Lake Tahoe Bikeway. The Bikeway will link communities around the lake, improve air quality, and provide a breathtaking recreational amenity for Tahoe residents and visitors.
Rain, wind and snow to blast Lake Tahoe through weekend

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and Wind Advisory from 10 Thursday night through 4 p.m. Friday for areas above 7,000 feet. For the first wave of a series of three storms, anywhere between 8 to 16 inches of snow is expected around 7,000 feet and above and between 2 to 3 feet above 8,000 feet.
Lake Tahoe resorts prepare as series of winter storms begin

Thanks to the highest elevations in the Sierra, it is currently snowing at Heavenly, Kirkwood at Sierra-at-Tahoe, the resorts report.

"Gino" has fished Tahoe for some 30 years and is one of the top, if not the top, fishing guides at that lake.
Sigh, and as usual on that day, Man's Favorite Sport belonged to Elaine for the fourth straight year!

Nevada Posts 26th Consecutive Taxable Sales Increase In August
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 10/25/2012 - 2:31pmCARSON CITY – Nevada recorded its 26th consecutive month of taxable sales increases in August, when consumers spent $3.7 billion on goods and services for a 7.6 percent jump over August 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.
The last decrease in statewide taxable sales came in June 2010, when a 0.3 percent decline was reported over June 2009.
Taxable sales grew by 8.1 percent in Clark County and jumped double-digits in Washoe County to 10.5 percent.

The show will be scheduled at a later date, Patton said. Ticket sales had started out slow but began to pick up this week, she said.

South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos see August gaming loss
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 10/10/2012 - 8:33amGaming profits for South Shore Lake Tahoe area casinos tumbled in August, falling 19.45 percent over profits during the same period last year, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Wednesday.
South Shore casinos took in a total gaming profit of $22,016,651 for the month, while in August 2011 they took in $27,331,777.
Statewide casinos saw a 3.11 decrease in "gaming win" over the same period last year, the state's gaming regulator reports. Nevada casinos took in gaming profits of $859,240,472 for the month of August. In August 2011 it was $886,835,278.

Woman dies in Douglas County accident near valley side of Kingsbury Grade intersection
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 10/07/2012 - 1:09pmA Carson City woman died on Saturday in a single vehicle rollover accident on State Route 207 in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Lynette Lucille Cieri, 63, died of injuries sustained in the accident. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident was reported at 5:20 p.m. at State Route 207 and Mottsville Lane. The preliminary investigation indicates a 1995 light green Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on Mottsville Lane. For an unknown reason, the Jeep entered the north dirt shoulder of Mottsville Lane before re-entering the westbound lane.
Motorcycle crash with injuries reported on Spooner Summit

The accident happened in the eastbound lane and was reported at 5:22 p.m. Motorists can expect delays. NHP also responded to vehicle accident with injuries near the valley side of Kingsbury Grade at the intersection of Foothill and Mottsville. This accident was reported at 5:20 p.m.
Campground at Indian Creek Reservoir to close Oct. 8
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 10/05/2012 - 11:40amAlpine County's Indian Creek Campground, adjacent to Indian Creek Reservoir, will close for the season at noon on Oct. 8, the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office announced.
The campground will be closed through winter, and reopen May 3, 2013.
The east side of Indian Creek Reservoir will still be available for access off the entry road maintained by Alpine County, weather-permitting.

Douglas County offers free flu shot clinic

This event is open to the general public. Both the flu shot and the nasal spray will be available.
Citizens are invited to stop by Douglas High School on Saturday, October 6th, 2012, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for a free flu vaccination.

NHP reports numerous crashes, arrests during Street Vibration events
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/24/2012 - 9:14amThe Nevada Highway Patrol reports investigating 65 crashes associated with the 2012 Street Vibration motorcycle rally which had riders attending events between Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
There were no fatalities associated with the annual motorcycle rally, according to NHP. Reno police however, were investigating a Sunday morning fatal crash on Plumb Lane. It is unknown if that was related to the motorcycle rally.
