Family Resource Center closes and cancels annual Cinco de Mayo celebration due to COVID-19 concerns

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Family Resource Center in South Lake Tahoe has closed out of concern of the spread of the COVID-19 virus and recommendations from health professionals, LTUSD and the State of California.

They plan on reopening on April 12, 2020.

Their therapeutic service clients will be contacted to have phone/internet discussions. All classes though are suspended as are meetings and food distribution.

The nonprofit also had to cancel its 17th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival and March 26 Immigration Forum on March 26th.

Three Latinas and a Navé Cinco de Mayo comedy show on South Shore

Howie Nave has spread his comedic wings and has now produced a comedy show, Three Latinas and a Navé (accent on the 'e' that night), which will be unveiled May 5 at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe's Vinyl, starting at 8:00 p.m.

It's a Cinco de Mayo evening of comedy presented by Nave's Bear Tracks Promotions and KRLT 93-9 The Lake with Latina comedians Shayla Rivera, Monique Marvez, Jade Esteban Estrada. Nave will be hosting the show, something fans of comedy will know from his years in a South Lake Tahoe comedy club.

Azul Latin Kitchen raises $6,000 for Tahoe Youth & Family Services in 2017

Azul Latin Kitchen, located in the Heavenly Village, awarded a check for $6,000 to Tahoe Youth and Family Services during the board meeting on January 22.

Family Resource Center's 14th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival Friday

The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center (FRC) is holding their 14th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival on Friday, May 5 starting at 5:00 p.m. at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The community is invited to join them for an "all you can eat" Mexican food buffet, dancing with live music and a fabulous raffle.

Tickets can be purchased at the center for $20 or at the door for $25. Children ages 6-12 are $10 and 5 and under are free. Raffle tickets for chances at prizes donated by local businesses are available for $5 each of 5/$20.

Cinco de Mayo celebration at Azul to raise money for Tahoe Youth & Family Services

Azul Latin Kitchen in the Heavenly Village will be having a Cinco de Mayo party on Friday to raise funds for Tahoe Youth & Family Services. From drink specials to a dunking booth, the fun will be a unique way to celebrate the holiday South Lake Tahoe style.

From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on May 5, the public can enjoy drink specials, a frozen t-shirt contest (see the video in this story), dunking booth, a silent auction and fun and surprises.

All funds raised go to support the agency which has provided counseling, mentoring and support programs to the community since 1971.

13th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at Heavenly

The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center (a non-profit public benefit agency) will hold its 13th annual Cinco de Mayo festival at Heavenly’s California Lodge on Friday, May 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. An all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet, authentic live music, folkloric dancers, children’s activities, a no-host beer and wine bar and tequila tasting will be featured at the event.

Tickets are on sale at the center for $20 in advance. They will be $25 at the door. Children 6 to 12 years old will be admitted for $10 and children younger than 5 are admitted free.

St. Patrick's Day DUI checkpoint in South Lake Tahoe

With St. Patrick's Day being one of the biggest holidays centered around partying, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department is having a DUI Checkpoint as well as extra patrols on the roads to help lower deaths and injuries.

The checkpoint will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. The location has not been disclosed.

The Avoid the 6 — El Dorado County DUI Task Force will be deploying DUI saturation patrols throughout into a number of cities supporting routine DUI patrols on Cinco De Mayo starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012.  Additionally, CHP will be deploying saturation patrols onto freeways and in unincorporated county jurisdictions to stop, test and arrest impaired drivers who fail to use a designated driver.
