Mental health and substance abuse top health concerns in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/10/2015 - 9:53pmThe community has undergone a complete physical and the results are in. Based on the 2015 Community Health Needs Assessment, mental health and substance abuse remain top health concerns in the area.
Barton Health conducted its second Community Health Needs Assessment to identify unmet needs within the community. After identifying these needs, Barton will work with representatives from organizations who provide services for the medically underserved to offer recommendations and a collaborative action plan focused on positively impacting the community’s health.
$10 million gift presented for Barton Wellness and Sports Performance Center
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/16/2015 - 9:58pmSouth Lake Tahoe resident Lisa Maloff presented a $10 million check to the Barton Foundation on Wednesday night for the building of the Robert Maloff Center of Excellence. The donation was made in memory of her husband Robert, who co-owned and operated the Lake Tahoe Inn and Timber Cove Lodge.
Barton Auxiliary donates $230,000 and recognizes volunteers

More than 80 volunteers from the hospital, gift shop, and The Attic Thrift Store attended and were recognized for their service and gifts.
Barton receives $10 million donation to build a sports and wellness center
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/04/2015 - 8:43pmJust a few months after she donated $5 million to Lake Tahoe Community College, Lisa Maloff has made another large donation in honor of her late husband, Robert Maloff.
Barton Memorial Hospital is the latest recipient of Maloff's generosity. She made a $10 million gift to fund the building of a health and sports performance center on the Barton Memorial Hospital campus. The new center will be called the Robert Maloff Center of Excellence.
Barton Hospital becomes one of four Trauma III centers in state

Barton Memorial Hospital has been designated a Level III trauma center which makes it only one of two in El Dorado County and just one of four for the state of California.
Barton rewarded for high quality patient outcomes

Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that it will receive an additional .5 percent in Medicare reimbursement for its high performance scores in patient care. Barton Hospital was compared to other hospitals nationally for its work in quality outcomes, patient safety and patient satisfaction. The higher
reimbursement will be allocated from October 2014 through September 2015.

In a 2012 study, the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) estimated that physician recruitment costs between $75,000 and $90,000 per doctor. This does not include the time and effort to set up a medical practice and then to retain a physician.
Barton Hospital Now Smoke Free; 8 Week Smoking Cessation Class Offered

The smoking and tobacco ban includes all Barton Health facilities, parking lots, grounds, and Barton Memorial Hospital. All patients, visitors, medical staff, vendors, and employees will not be allowed to smoke at Barton. This includes the use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, pipes, marijuana smoking, and smoke-free tobacco products such as chewing tobacco. The one exception will be for the two current patients at the Skilled Nursing Center who smoke. No further smoking patients for the center will be accepted.

Festival of Trees and Lights begins Thursday

Throughout the last three-years, Barton Foundation has dedicated funds raised from The Festival to Barton Health’s Community Clinic expansion and renovation. A Level III trauma center, located in Barton Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department (E.D.), is this year’s fundraising initiative.
'Test Drive' Barton Memorial Hospital's 'da Vinci' during Nevada Day

Nevada Day attendees will have the opportunity to “test drive” the da Vinci and enter to win an iPad. Barton Memorial Hospital, located in South Lake Tahoe, is one of the only hospitals serving Northern Nevada and California to offer da Vinci single-site gallbladder surgery.
