'Test Drive' Barton Memorial Hospital's 'da Vinci' during Nevada Day

Barton Memorial Hospital’s da Vinci® Si Surgical System will be on display for special public viewing during Nevada Day on Saturday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Carson City’s Nugget Convention Center Lobby.

Nevada Day attendees will have the opportunity to “test drive” the da Vinci and enter to win an iPad. Barton Memorial Hospital, located in South Lake Tahoe, is one of the only hospitals serving Northern Nevada and California to offer da Vinci single-site gallbladder surgery.

Barton General Surgeon, Scott Welker, who routinely performs single-incision removal of the gallbladder with the da Vinci® Si Surgical System, will be on-hand to help visitors “test drive” the machine during Nevada Day.

“With all of the added benefits of less pain, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays and a reduced risk of infection, the single-incision allows us to do cholecystectomies via one incision in the umbilicus [navel], which is nearly invisible after it heals,” Dr. Welker said.

Surgeons at Barton Memorial also specialize in additional da Vinci surgical procedures completed through multiple tiny, 1-2 cm incisions, such as hernia repair, anti-reflux, colon and stomach surgery, and can treat advanced gynecological conditions. These include, but are not limited to, complex hysterectomies, uterine fibroids and endometriosis.

For many gynecologic procedures, robotic assisted surgery with the da Vinci® System may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option. The da Vinci® System enables surgeons to operate with greater precision and control, minimizing the pain and risk associated with large incisions while increasing the likelihood of a fast recovery and excellent clinical outcomes.
