On January 5, 2021, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced a plan to reduce pressure on strained hospital systems and redistribute the responsibility of medical care across the state so patients can continue to receive lifesaving care.
This mandate is meant to share resources and staffing related to the current COVID-19 surge.

Doses received during the vaccine rollout in Phase 1a have been specifically allocated for healthcare workers and hospital Skilled Nursing Facility residents, under California’s tiered vaccination plan.

The vaccine gained approval by a panel of 22 experts on Thursday by a vote of 17-4 in favor of recommending the FDA give it the green light (one panelist abstained).

In the simulated event after school, a call went over the radios on a secure channel to alert all first responders of a shooting at the high school and with the shooter still on the loose. At the first call, there were seven "victims" (volunteers acting for the training).

Matthew Wonnacott named Barton Health’s Doctor of the Year

Dr. Wonnacott was recently appointed to Chief Medical Officer at Barton Health. He was previously Medical Director and a family practitioner at Barton Community Health Center. Dr. Wonnacott was instrumental in bringing a new Medication-Assisted Treatment program to address substance abuse and opioid dependency in the community.

Health assessment of South Lake Tahoe shows mental health and substance abuse at top of needs list

Every three years Barton Health conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment to identity the key health issues facing the area. They use a systematic, data-driven process to determine the health status, concerns, and needs of residents in the South Tahoe community.
The 2018 results are a follow-up to similar studies completed in 2012 and 2015.

Patients will have access to the forest through a guided outing with a USFS ranger and physician or nurse.
In addition to Wellness Outings, the partnership will provide wellness and injury prevention training for USFS rangers and firefighters, as well as accessibility of public lands to promote outdoor recreation.
Barton Health RNs vote to unionize
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/16/2017 - 5:11pmRegistered Nurses (RNs) at Barton Memorial Hospital and Lake Tahoe Surgery Center voted 123 to 17 to unionize during a secret ballot taken Wednesday night according to the California Nurses Association (CNA).
After the Barton Health vote, 3,000 caregivers in 10 union elections have voted to have collective representation in California in 2017.
“A record of incredible accomplishment for CNA that will strengthen the ability of RNs to promote safer care conditions for all Californians,” said CNA Co-President Malinda Markowitz, RN, who is also an NNU vice-president.

Commercial Floor Space - Doctors Steve Leman and Clint Purvance have applied for Commercial Floor Space allocations (CFA) for three projects at the Y area. Together they are asking for 6,170 square feet of CFA from the City's allotment for a building at 941 Emerald Bay Road. Leman himself is asking for 4,621 square feet at 2215 South Avenue and another 4,025 at 1072 4TH Street. He also wants to purchase another 28,940 Square Feet of 1B Banked Land Coverage from the City.

Each Medicare certified acute care hospital across the nation receives a patient perception rating between one and five stars based on patient satisfaction surveys. Of the 298 California hospitals assessed, Barton Hospital ranked in the top 14 percent.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/12/2015 - 7:53pmDr. Rhonda Sneeringer has been promoted to Barton Health's Chief Medical Officer, replacing Dr. Clint Purvance who is the hospital's new President/CEO.
She will start her new job November 1.
Dr. Sneeringer has been a pediatric and adult hospitalist at Barton for the past three years. She currently serves as the Vice Chief of Staff.
"Dr. Sneeringer has shown commitment to quality and patient-centered care" said retiring CEO John Williams. "This commitment, coupled with her enthusiasm, will help continue our efforts to make Barton Health a community leader in health and wellness."
Dr. Clint Purvance named new Barton Health President and CEO
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/04/2015 - 9:40pmDr. Clint Purvance will be taking over the helm at Barton Health on November 1, replacing the retiring John Williams who will retire in early 2016 after nine years with Barton Health.
Dr. Purvance has served as Chief Medical Officer for Barton Health for the past eight years. He is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and has practiced medicine at Barton Memorial Hospital since 1999.
