August 17, 2013 - 10:00am The 2nd Annual Dog Carnival returns to South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, August 17 from 10 am to 4 pm. The non-profit Dawgs on the Run puts on the event to promote the fun and benefits of having dogs in our lives. This full day of fun is for dogs and their humans to enjoy and includes games, contests, raffles, food, prizes and informative demonstrations. All leashed dogs are invited!

Taylor Creek Visitor Center hosts bird and native species festivals

Residents and visitors are invited to attend these free family events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center, located three miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89.

April 22, 2013 (All day) The winners of the Carson Memories photo contest were announced this week in a ceremony held at the Carson Nugget.
The Carson Memories contest asked participants to submit their favorite photos demonstrating something special or distinct about the Carson City area.
The winning photos, along with the other select photos, are being incorporated into an exhibit created by Gardnerville artist, Beverly Caputo. The exhibit is featured next to a recently finished mural painted by Caputo. The mural depicts key people, places and things of historical relevance to Carson City.
Tahoe trails need your help to win $33k for improved recreation; vote on Facebook

The other two trail types selected were pump tracks/bike park and downhill. Bell Helmets is offering up to $100,000 in technical assistance grants to fund three new mountain bike projects to be built by International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Trail Solutions through the Bell Built Grant.

Tied to the birth of freesking, Hall is well accomplished with multiple X Games gold medals in both slopestyle and superpipe. Hall has invited 15 of the best skiers in the world to participate in this one-of-a-kind event with a feature that will progress skiing and offer a different format than the traditional slopestyle contest, said Sierra spokesman Steve Hemphill.

Mural Project spotlights talents of local artist and seeks to engage community

Right now they contain the mural paintings of Kit Carson, V&T Railroad, Dat So La Lee, the Carson Mint, Carson Nugget, Roosevelt’s Speech Capital Building, Carson Brewery and Capital Building; but soon those walls could contain so much more.
“The hope is to show Carson City’s uniqueness as well as the love and pride we have for our home and community,” said Gardnerville artist Beverly Caputo.

Light up South Lake Tahoe Event a Success
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 11/28/2012 - 8:14amThe First “Light up South Lake Tahoe” event took place over Thanksgiving weekend with multiple businesses along Highway 50 participating by decorating their store fronts and turning on their lights as the South Lake Tahoe Fire Departments fire truck and Streets Department snow plow led the procession from Stateline to the “Y.”
“We are very pleased with the turnout of tonight’s event with at least 150 people coming out to watch the tree lighting and we look forward to next year’s event being even bigger and better,” said Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis.

"Gino" has fished Tahoe for some 30 years and is one of the top, if not the top, fishing guides at that lake.
Sigh, and as usual on that day, Man's Favorite Sport belonged to Elaine for the fourth straight year!

Locals and visitors united to celebrate the kick off the South Shore Lake Tahoe ski and snowboard season. Among the festivities were food and drink specials, contests, bands playing upstairs and downstairs, the frozen t-shirt contest and various giveaways from Sierra-at-Tahoe, Sensational Tans, Sierra Athletic Club, Tahoe Bowl, The Village Board Shop and Camp Richardson.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe is teaming up with local progressive rockers Groovebox to stage a Halloween Party all about keeping it blue. A costume contest will award prizes for best overall costume and most creative blue costume.
