Numerous Red Flag Warnings are in effect from the Sierra Nevada to the High Plains of South Dakota.

No band knows this better than the one time Nashville based indie folk-rock duo You Knew Me When. After uprooting from their Nashville home and full-time jobs in June of 2012 the husband and wife indie folk-rock duo set plans to tour the nation for a full year…however, they never stopped.

Sample the Sierra, the annual event in South Lake Tahoe that highlights the talent of the Sierra Nevada via food, wine, beer, spirits, produce and art has moved from their normal Labor Day weekend date.

This year, the Tahoe Chamber sponsored event has moved to Saturday, September 17 at Bijou Community Park from noon to 5:00 p.m.

The Lake Tahoe Community College Writers’ Series welcomes novelist Rebecca Makkai on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Board/Aspen Room inside the library building. Makkai will read selections from her work, answer audience questions, and sign copies of her books, which will be available for sale. This event is free and open to the public.

The inaugural Winter Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and will feature stocking stuffers, gifts for Hanukkah and Christmas, and small prizes for attending. Food will be offered for sale by Seniors, Inc. The Senior Center is located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

South Lake Tahoe's 968 Park Hotel is hosting one of their popular craft beer tastings on Saturday, November 14 at 5 p.m. in their CoffeePub Lounge and Bar.

The craft beer tasting will be by Anderson Valley Brewing Company which is based in Booneville, Calif.

Halloween is often recognized as a holiday that offers just as much fun for adults as it does for children. An updated Lake Tahoe Basin Community Wildfire Protection Plan will be presented to the public during the Lake Tahoe Environmental Summit on Monday, August 24, 2015. This new Community Wildfire Protection Plan was collaboratively developed by the 18 member organizations of the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) and is the culmination of a three-year planning effort.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council narrowly approved a new temporary craft show ordinance and increased fee schedule during their meeting on Tuesday.

"Seems like overkill," said Councilwoman JoAnn Conner in her vote against the ordinance. "Its a tremendous amount of work for anyone who wants to come in and do an event and its a tremendous amount of work for staff."

Conner was speaking of the new ordinance which changes the rules for the eight temporary craft shows held annually in the city each year. She and Tom Davis were the two dissenting votes.

Well before the fireworks are set off above Lake Tahoe at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, families will be able enjoy a plethora of activities along the South Shore.

The day starts off with the Annual South Lake Tahoe 4th of July Parade at 10 a.m. The procession will start at the SLT Recreation Center, to Highway 50 and down to Cardinale Way past the "Y." It will be over by 11 a.m.

Writers, readers and performers from all around the country will appear at South Lake Tahoe Oct. 9-11, 2015 for WordWave, a three-day festival held on the grounds of Valhalla at the Tallac Historic Site. This literary mash-up will feature oral storytelling, theater performances and free readings, panels on craft, yoga, and a novel writing camp for kids. Highlights include a one-act playwriting contest, a Maker’s Station demo with bookbinding, letterpress, drum making, and found poetry and art. Ticketed events include a steampunk ball, workshops, and even a hike.

The City of South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission will be considering adoption of the Tahoe Valley Area Plan and amending the City Zoning Ordinance to allow for outdoor display of specialized recreation equipment at their May 14 meeting.

Also on the agenda is an ordinance concerning South Lake Tahoe outdoor craft fairs.

The meeting is in the City Council chambers at the airport at 3 p.m.

In South Lake Tahoe every year, many new species are brought in and out of the Lake. While some locals have boats, only some use them in other lakes.
