High winds delay Tahoe Queen in Carnelian Bay

A Lake Tahoe cruise ship, the Tahoe Queen, was waiting for whipping winds to subside when it appeared grounded Sunday in Carnelian Bay, Placer County Sheriff’s dispatch and the local boat marina said. Go here for the story from the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Meanwhile, Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded shortly before 4 p.m. to a capsized sailboat about 300 yards off of Cave Rock boat landing. The owner of the vessel reports that everyone is off the boat and accounted for.

The Lake Tahoe Sierra Century Ride 2012 is slated for Saturday, September 22, offering incredible scenery and excellent exercise, all benefiting a great cause. Riders can choose a 100-mile, 60-mile or 30-mile route and enjoy breathtaking vistas and the crisp mountain air of autumn in the Sierra.

All of the routes start and finish in The Village at Squaw Valley, and all benefit the music students at North Tahoe Middle and High schools. While the event's moniker includes the word ‘century,' the 100-miler is just one of three rides offered in this annual Tahoe event.

Sierra-at-Tahoe extends season through April 22; Customer Appreciation Day on April 23

Thanks to Mother Nature’s late-season generosity, Sierra-at-Tahoe will extend its season and remain open with full operations every day through Sunday, April 22. Customer Appreciation Day is on Monday, April 23.
Skiers and riders of all ages can purchase a lift ticket for $20 on April 23. All of the proceeds raised from the day’s lift ticket sales will be donated to sponsor youth recreation and education including youth baseball, soccer, swimming, and other youth activities.

Locals Help to Identify Biggest Threats to Lake Tahoe Basin

This winter, the Tahoe Resource Conservation District launched a Facebook contest in support of its “Tahoe’s Most un-Wanted” campaign in order to collaborate with the community for its series of educational posters. The wild-west themed posters are intended to help locals and visitors to identify some of the most pressing threats to the Tahoe Basin, as well as what people can do to help mitigate environmental challenges.

Agency launches Tahoe's 'Most Un-Wanted' invasive species public campaign

The Tahoe Resource Conservation District has released a series of educational posters which identify some of the biggest threats to Lake Tahoe Basin, as well as what visitors, residents and even kids can do to help. Titled “Tahoe’s Most un-Wanted,” the first three posters feature aquatic invasive species, fine sediments from runoff and invasive weeds, and are free to pick up or request for local schools, businesses and other organizations who would like to display them publicly.

Lake Tahoe, Reno to host Chinese Cosmos pageant

Nevada will host 18 contestants from all over the world who are competing in the Miss Chinese Cosmos Semi-Finals, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, announced today in a press release.

The event will take place in Reno and Lake Tahoe from Sept. 23-30, 2011. The contest moves around the world each year, last year taking place in Sydney, Australia. This is the first time the pageant has been held in the United States.
