Road Beat: 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring, A Double Wow
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/24/2020 - 7:06pmI continue to remark in several recent Road Beats, that Honda is on a roll, after testing this new Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring, I have to report that the roll is still accelerating and rather quickly, including its price. Here is a car with loads of utility, outstanding performance, great fuel economy, superb handling and good comfort for a sticker price not $22,380 with the boat ride from Swindon, Wiltshire, England, but $29,780. That’s right a price bump of about 30 percent for the Touring model.
Road Beat: Hyundai Sonata - The new mid-size class act
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/29/2020 - 2:47pmA boulevardier, taken from Merriam-Webster, is a frequenter of the Parisian boulevards, or a person-about-town in more broad terms. So basically, to be a Parisian boulevard connoisseur, you must be fashionable, social, and energetic. Being wealthy helps, too. The new Hyundai Sonata is the attainable boulevardier for a new generation.
Road Beat: 2020 Kia Telluride - The class act of the classes, times two
Submitted by paula on Sun, 06/28/2020 - 9:28amIn an all-new vehicle in what can be considered a new size class for SUVs, Lia’s new Telluride has hit a Grand Slam (Salami, if you are Italian or a Yankee Fan), but not an ordinary Grand Slam, but this one landed on River Avenue or Waveland Avenue if you’re a Cubby. I used those exact words about Kia’s sibling, the Hyundai Palisade. It is flat out one of the two best SUVs I have ever driven with performance, ride, handling, quiet, comfort and economy levels that put it immediately at the top of its class and almost every other class. Telluride is also simply a Class act.
Road Beat: 2020 Toyota Rav4 TRD Off-Road
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/31/2020 - 7:25amNo, this can’t be. It’s too interesting to be a Rav4. Over the waning ‘teens, Toyota has sought to seemingly reinvent itself as a carmaker of interest. Now, that begs an important question, though: did they have to? Even as the cars became more and more relentlessly boring, people still bought them to make for the single biggest car brand in the world.
Road Beat: 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Limited - Still best basic hybrid you can buy
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/16/2020 - 9:29amIt has been about a year and a half since I last tested a Hyundai Ioniq hybrid, a base model stickering for just $23,210. This time around, my tester was a near top of the line limited. Essentially, they are the same vehicle except for content. But that doesn’t mean that this base unit is a stripper? It isn’t as it comes standard with power windows, mirrors, backup camera, and most everything else one could want.

Trailer for 'Top Gun: Maverick' released, scenes filmed at Lake Tahoe and in the Sierra
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/18/2019 - 3:07pmThe movie trailer for "Top Gun: Maverick" where segments of the production were filmed at Lake Tahoe, was released Thursday by Paramount Pictures.
"Top Gun: Maverick" is the sequel to 1986's blockbuster "Top Gun." In true dramatic fashion, the trailer builds up the story of the Tom Cruise character Maverick as the new flight instructor of the Top Gun school.

Road Beat: Mitsubishi Outlander GT, A high value alternative
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/14/2019 - 10:51pmWhen tested exactly three years ago, I called the Mitsubishi Outlander a high value, bang for the buck CUV. Now with compact, small-midsize CUVs all costing in the mid $30K range and more, the Mitsubishi stands out even more as my extremely loaded three rows of seats Outlander GT stickered for $36K all in including the boat from Japan. While the price is up a minuscule three percent, additional content and improvements have increased the value quotient. And that quotient grows as inflation would have boosted the price by at least six percent.
Road Beat: 2019 Volvo V60 T6 AWD, Momentum is certainly not lacking
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/18/2019 - 5:22pmMomentum has many synonyms such as thrust, energy, force or push. With this new Volvo, it is most appropriate as it can sprint from 0-60 mph in less than 5.2 seconds a world class time. OK, so there is little question this Volvo and many others powered by its T6, 316 hp 2.0L turbo and supercharged engine are extremely quick. It’s a relatively a new trait brought on about 20 years ago with an S60 T6 sedan, a vehicle I called the Rolex Rocket for its brilliant blue instrumentation ala a blue faced Rolex Submariner wristwatch.
The Road Beat: 2019 Mazda 3 - Cementing its number one compact spot
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/04/2019 - 10:17pmMazda has an “all new” Mazda 3. It has some resemblance to the prior generation Mazda 3 but it is a new fourth generation and it had a new designer, Yasutake Tsuchida. Tsuchida continued with the “Kodo” design theme using a very similar, aggressive front end while smoothing out the body ridges and incorporating a sleeker, less complicated rear end. It uses a similar window line except for the “Hofmeister kink” now present in the termination of the rear side windows. It is a better-looking car (then its prior generation) and retains the title of the best-looking compact car.
Road Beat: 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback XSE, the right way to go
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/26/2019 - 1:29pm2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback XSE, A new direction for the Corolla iM and it’s the right way to go.
Corolla iM evolved originally from the Scion brand, it was a second-generation Scion and when the brand was folded into Toyota it became a Corolla iM. I liked the iM as it had good performance, great styling looking a bit like a lowered and sleeker RAV4 with excellent fuel economy.

Road Beat: 2019 Kia Forte - Performs as good as it looks
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/16/2019 - 8:39pmIt’s hard to believe that it has been only 25 years since Kia came to the U.S. with the 88 hp Sephia. The first TV ad showed a Kia Sephia following a Honda Civic through the streets of Los Angeles (in fast motion) demonstrating it could do anything the Honda Civic could do.

Important safety tips when navigating South Lake Tahoe roads during wet storm

The combination of the snow and rain mixture is casing roadways to flood. It is imperative to provide snow removal vehicles the right of way as they work to clear roadways as well as blocked drainage ways.
Follow these safety tips:
Do not drive through water that is too deep. “Turn around – don’t drown”
Do not try and cross the snow berm in the center lane. Wait until snow removal crews have cleared the center lane for crossing.
