Autumn Fest at Lake Tahoe Demonstration Garden Sept. 25

How does your Lake Tahoe garden grow? Count the ways at the fifth annual Autumn Fest on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the beautiful Lake Tahoe Demonstration Garden located at Lake Tahoe Community College.
The free, family-friendly event promises to be the most vibrant fall festival in Tahoe yet. Coordinated by the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, the Boys and Girls’ Club of South Lake Tahoe and South Tahoe Public Utilities District (STPUD), Autumn Fest is a community celebration of the seasons, gardening, and sustainability, as well as the primary fundraiser for the Lake Tahoe Demonstration Garden, a valuable and influential tool for teaching residents and youth about conservation landscaping in Tahoe.
Autumn Fest will feature activities and entertainment for all ages, including presentations on gardening and sustainable living in the Sierra Nevada, live music, crafts and games for kids and adults, a local artisans’ market, booths by local organizations, pony rides, local food vendors and, as always, the silent auction and pumpkin patch. This year the auction is sponsored by Outdoor Gear Lab, which is donating over a thousand dollar’s worth of top-notch outdoor recreation equipment. The auction will also feature lift tickets, resort stays, fly fishing lessons, cruise tickets and much more.

“Autumn Fest is fast becoming one of our largest and most popular community events of the year,” said Pete Brumis of Tahoe RCD. “Last year about 400 people attended — and this year we’re anticipating an even greater turn-out.”
The Lake Tahoe Demonstration Garden, established in 1991, has become an invaluable educational tool for modeling conservation landscaping practices in the Tahoe Basin. Funds raised through the silent auction at Autumn Fest are integral to the upkeep of the Garden as well as the continuation of its free educational programs, such as the Green Thumb Gardening workshop series. The planning committee also strives to make Autumn Fest a sustainable event. South Tahoe Refuse and Full Circle Compost are graciously donating recycling and compost services to make Autumn Fest a zero-waste event. In addition, those who bike to the event will receive an extra raffle ticket for the door prize.
