South Lake Tahoe lands popular online TEDx education series

TEDx an online education series and offshoot of the popular TED Talks programs, will happen at South Lake Tahoe this fall, those associated with the program confirmed Tuesday.
The conference was approved by TED administration and will likely be held at the new Viking Theatre at South Tahoe High School's Tahoe Arts and Design Academy.

Possible explosive device thrown through window of South Lake Tahoe marijuana collective

A device was thrown through the window of Patient to Patient, a marijuana collective in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. on Thursday night, prompting a bomb squad unit from Douglas County to be called to the scene. No injuries were reported. The scene was rendered safe at 12:30 Friday morning.
The device, thought to be explosive, was reported to South Lake Tahoe dispatch at 10:15 p.m. Patient to Patient is located at 2314 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Washoe offers sacred name 'Tahnu Leweh' for Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe

With the Washoe Tribe's offering and support of El Dorado County Supervisor Norma Santiago, a move is underway to rename Lakeview Commons Park at South Lake Tahoe in time for an official June 20 dedication.
Given its 6,000 year history, the Washoe Tribe has presented the name Tahnu Leweh (Pronounced Tah-New Lay-Way) which, in native language, means "all the people's place." It is a name the Tribe would like to gift to El Dorado County and South Lake Tahoe as a symbol of peace, prosperity and goodness, said Darrel Cruz, Culture and Language Director for the Washoe Tribe.

Feminist Artist Joanna Frueh Workshop at Sierra Nevada College

Following her performance at UNR on March 1, scholar, teacher, and artist Joanna Frueh will conduct a workshop at Sierra Nevada College, 999 Tahoe Blvd., on Friday, March 2 from 1 -3:30pm in David Hall, 3rd floor. Tahoe Toy Run

The 21st annual Tahoe Toy Run roll through South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, Oct. 1, The South Lake Tahoe event is a major fundraiser for Christmas Cheer, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food to needy families and Christmas toys to underprivileged children. Motorcycles will start at the Horizon Casino at Stateline beginning at 10 a.m. and parade down Highway 50, led by Santa Claus, to the Lake Tahoe Airport. Entertainment will include raffle prizes, auction, barbecue, and live music featuring the Cash Only band and Deep Fryed Mojo playing from noon to 8 p.m.
