Jamie Anderson nominated for 7th ESPY award; Public invited to vote
Submitted by paula on Sun, 06/24/2018 - 10:43pmOlympic Gold Medalist Jamie Anderson from South Lake Tahoe has been nominated for two more ESPY awards in a year dominated by snowboarders, at least in the Olympic and action sport categories. She is up against fellow Olympian Chloe Kim for Best Female Action Sports Athlete, an award Anderson won in 2012, 2014 and 2016, and nominated for in 2007.
Anderson is also nominated for Best U.S. Female Olympian, an award she previously won in 2014. She is up against Kim for this award as well.
ESPY stands for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly.

On the first hole will be Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors, who was in Los Angeles Wednesday evening to accept an ESPY award with his teammates for "Best Team."

Jamie Anderson wins ESPY for Female Action Sports Athlete of the Year
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/13/2016 - 9:14pmOlympic Gold medalist Jamie Anderson of Meyers won the ESPY Wednesday night for Best Female Action Sport Athlete, her third year winning an award honoring the nation's top athletes.
The Sierra-at-Tahoe snowboarder took to Instagram after the ceremony in Los Angeles. "So thankful on so many levels," Anderson said. "I wouldn't be where I am today without the love, support & encouragement of my family, friends & of course my sponsors! Thanks for making my Dreams a reality! Unbelievably grateful."

Maddie Bowman wins gold; Jamie Anderson silver in XGames
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/29/2016 - 11:30pmAll three runs for South Lake Tahoe's Maddie Bowman in the Women's Ski SuperPipe X Games today beat all competitors on the course, earning her a fourth straight gold medal in the event. The 22-year-old Olympic gold medalist has also won a silver and bronze in the X Games.
Bowman scored a 85.33 on her first run Friday, followed by a 87.33 and 89.00. Second place finisher Ayana Onozuka of Japan ended up with a high run of 85.00. Bronze medalist Annalisa Drew of the USA had an 83.00.

Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/16/2014 - 10:25pmJamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe won two awards at Wednesday night's ESPY awards in Los Angeles. She won the award for Best Female Action Sports Athlete and Best Female U.S. Olympian.
Anderson, the 23 year old who brought home a Gold Medal, also won the ESPY for Best Female Action Sports Athlete in 2012. She won inaugural Women's Slopestyle Event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
An ESPY Award is an accolade presented by the American cable television network ESPN to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance.
Freestyle skiing trailblazer Sarah Burke dies after Jan. 10 training accident
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 01/20/2012 - 2:00amCanadian freeskier Sarah Burke died Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital, nine days after crashing at the bottom of the superpipe during a training run in Utah. Burke, who lived near Whistler in British Columbia, was 29. She was injured Jan. 10 while training at a personal sponsor event at the Park City Mountain resort.
Tests revealed Burke suffered "irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest," according to a statement released by Burke's publicist, Nicole Wool.
