Half-Pipe Veteran Skier Sarah Burke Seriously Injured in Park City Crash

Veteran halfpipe skier Sarah Burke sustained a serious head injury in a crash at Park City Mountain Resort Tuesday afternoon and was airlifted by helicopter to University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Powder Magazine reports.
Burke, 29, of Squamish, B.C., was training in the halfpipe with fellow Monster Energy team riders. Powder reports that around 1 p.m., she landed a trick off of the wall on her feet at the bottom of the pipe, but then “whiplashed” over onto her side, according to a person who witnessed the accident.
Burke was paramount in bringing women's freeskiing to the X Games, and for the first time at the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, Russia. In 2007 ESPY named Best Female Action Sports Athlete.
