SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The weather is changing, the mornings are warming and the fruits and vegetables are ripening. The El Dorado County Certified Farmers Market at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe returns on Tuesday, June 4.

The market will be every Tuesday in the American Legion parking lot from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through October 8, 2019.

Each week attendees can meet the farmers, learn about the produce they bring to the market, and how to prepare it. Each week's bounty reflects on what is ready and ripe. There are also arts, crafts, coffee and more.

The UCCE Master Gardeners of South Lake Tahoe are having part one (vegetables only) of their 4th annual Plant Sale this Friday, June 9 at the Ski Run Farmers Market from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., or until they sell out of plants. The sale is being held jointly with the Sierra House Elementary School who will be selling student crafted garden art.

The snow has melted (most places) at lake level and spring is finally here, so that means it's time for farmers markets in South Lake Tahoe.

First market to open is the Lake Tahoe Market on Wednesday, May 24 at Kahle Community Park, 236 Kingsbury Grade near the state line from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. They will be open on Wednesdays through the summer.

The mobile food pantry from El Dorado County Food Bank will be in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, July 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the American Legion parking lot. For over 15 years the non-profit has brought food to the South Shore. Besides the food bags from local residents in need, the food bank also delivers to several non-profits in town including Senior Plaza and Bread and Broth.

During the summer and fall, extra fresh produce is added to the distributions.

It is time for farmer's markets to return to South Lake Tahoe and Stateline, the first two set to start Friday, June 3.

On Friday, the popular Ski Run Blvd market opens for their seventh season at 3:00 p.m. Food, crafts, fruit and vegetables will be featured in the middle of the block in front of Blue Angel Cafe. This market will be on all Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. through September 30. For more information, visit their website www.skirunfarmersmarket.com.

Rain or shine, the Food Bank of El Dorado County returns to South Lake Tahoe with their free monthly Farmers Market & Mobile Food Pantry distribution on Wednesday, May 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the American Legion Hall located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Rows of fresh fruit, vegetables, coffee, food, flowers and local goods including soap and books will be featured at the South Lake Tahoe Farmers' Markets on Tuesdays all summer.

The Tuesday market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is operated by El Dorado County Farmers' Markets and is held at the American Legion located at 2732 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Emergency groceries will be available to qualified South Lake Tahoe residents on Wednesday, July 23rd The Food Bank of El Dorado County's Mobile Food Pantry and Free Farmers Market will be in town to distribute food at the American Legion Hall located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Food Bank will have lots of fresh produce and emergency supplemental groceries to feed South Lake Tahoe’s at-risk population. One allocation per household will be available.

The El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging has a limited supply of Senior Farmers' Market check booklets available for qualified El Dorado County Seniors. Farmers' Market check booklets will be distributed on first come, first served basis to seniors who are at least 60 years of age and meet income guidelines (one person household with annual income less than $21,590 or two person household with income less than $29,101).

Farm fresh produce is available at the Friday Evening Farmers' Market, 4 to 7 p.m. at Kahle Community Park, 236 Kingsbury Grade, in Stateline. The market runs Fridays through Oct. 26. For more information email FridayEveningMarket@yahoo.com.
