League to Save Lake Tahoe hosts 4th annual Summer Kickoff

The public is invited to the League to Save Lake Tahoe's 4th annual Summer Kickoff party at their South Lake Tahoe location from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24. They will have a native garden tour with helpful growing tips, live music, food and drink, raffle and more.

All people riding their bike to the event will get a surpirse award.

The League's offices are located at 2608 Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

Experts from Tahoe Outdoor Living will conduct tours of the League's gardens. Ice cold beer to be donated by Blue Moon Brewing and the food will be provided by The Cork & More.

Tahoe in Bloom garden tour set for July

Not only are the Lake Tahoe wildflowers giving viewers a colorful experience, so are the gardens of local green thumbs.

The Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners are holding the Annual Tahoe in Bloom Garden Tour on Saturday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Six beautiful gardens will be on display in the Mid-Kingsbury neighborhood.

During the tour there will also be three Tahoe-specific educational gardening talks, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer any questions.

The annual garden tour in South Lake Tahoe, once an annual event for the Lake Tahoe Historical Society, is now being hosted by the UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe.

The Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe, a group of volunteers trained through the UC of California, will be holding their annual June Day Jamboree and Plant Sale on June 13 at the Lake Tahoe Community College Demonstration Garden from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

History Sunday: The 1860s town of Rowlands on the South Shore

As the City of South Lake Tahoe celebrates the 50th anniversary of its incorporation, there is a long forgotten town that was once along the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Travelers came west in droves in 1849 after the discovery of gold near Placerville. Many used the Tahoe Wagon Road which is known as Pioneer Trail today. When the first major silver deposit in the United States was discovered in Virginia City in 1859, many of those same gold hunters traveled over that same road into Nevada.

7th Annual Landscape Tour: Vegetable gardens of Meyers highlighted

A free, and self guided tour of various vegetable gardens in Meyers will be held on Thursday, August 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

See how successful local gardeners can be, even with our high altitude and short growing season in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Staff from the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, University of California Cooperative Extension- Lake Tahoe Master Gardeners and residents will be on hand at each location to share tips, success stories and information on how you too can successfully grow vegetables in our mountain environment.

Garden Tour at South Lake Tahoe home on Saturday

The South Lake Tahoe garden of John and Cathy Hindmarsh will be on display Saturday, July 26.

The showing of the garden is hosted by Aspen Hollow Nursery at the Hindmarsh home located at 642 Tehama Drive. Stop by between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.. Refreshments will be provided and donations to Christmas Cheer are welcome. The event is free and open to the public.

This July featured garden is the first installment of the "South of
South Shore" 2014 open garden tour. The garden was designed and constructed by John Fellows of Aspen Hollow.

Lake Tahoe Historical Society 10th annual Garden Tour set for July 27
