Information sought on severely neglected dog abandoned in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/03/2020 - 10:20amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County Animal Services is looking for information from the public about a Cocker Spaniel dog that was abandoned on the side of the road in South Lake Tahoe. The severely neglected dog was found on August 22, 2020, by a Good Samaritan who brought the dog to the El Dorado County Animal Services Shelter in Meyers.
The female Cocker Spaniel is about eight-years-old with tan fur. She wasn’t wearing a collar or identification tag and was found lying on the side of the road on Spruce Avenue by Bijou School in South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Douglas Fire and US Coast Guard respond to call of boat on fire near Dollar Point, Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/21/2020 - 7:10amLAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 43-year-old man was rescued from a burning boat on Lake Tahoe Monday evening.
Rescue boats on the lake, including those from the Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD), responded to the scene near Dollar Point on the North Shore.
A 26-foot Cobalt was on fire, carrying a reported 40 gallons of fuel onboard. The man on board was rescued by a Good Samaritan prior to the arrival of the rescue boats.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/10/2018 - 3:11pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Sunday, December 9 at 5:15 p.m., a good Samaritan called authorities to alert them of a suspicious find at a turn out on Highway 50 on Echo Summit. A backpack was found on the side of the road with footprints leading from that spot to an outcropping above Christmas Valley and SR89 in Meyers.
Coast Guard rescues teen paddle boarders on Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/06/2018 - 10:53pmThe Coast Guard rescued two stand-up paddle boarders who were observed struggling on Lake Tahoe, Tuesday afternoon.
A good Samaritan called 911 at approximately 4:00 p.m., reporting two teenage boys adrift and struggling to paddle upwind near Rubicon Point on Lake Tahoe, which was relayed to Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe watchstanders.
A Station Lake Tahoe 25-foot response boat crew was dispatched to the scene. The crew took the paddlers aboard and transported them to Lester Beach with no reported injuries.
Dog saved after falling through ice in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/18/2017 - 7:05pmA dog is lucky to be alive today after falling through ice in the Tahoe Keys Monday. He had been out for a walk with his pregnant owner when the accident occurred. A 66-year-old woman from Oregon was in the area and heard the dog-owner's calls for help and jumped in to save the dog.
When the rescuer got out of the water she was very cold and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and the Cal Tahoe JPA were called out to the scene at 12:30 p.m.
The good Samaritan was transported to Barton Hospital with a mild case of hypothermia. It is unknown if she was treated and released.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/05/2017 - 4:24pmA 28-year-old woman is dead and her fiance has been hospitalized after a shooting in Shingle Springs Wednesday evening.
On October 4, 2017 at approximately 5:47 p.m., deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) responded to multiple reports of a shooting near the intersection of Mother Lode Drive and Sunset Lane.
They discovered two people shot at the scene. One of them, Bay Area resident Jessica Lyn Ball, was pronounced dead at the scene. A male, who was later determined to be her fiance, suffered a single gunshot would and was transported to a local hospital.

Woman rescued from Upper Truckee River in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/07/2017 - 7:33pm6/12/17 8:00 p.m. update - The woman who was rescued from the river, Stephanie Waggoner of Minden, Nev., has died as result falling off her paddleboard in South Lake Tahoe. The Washoe County Coroner's Office will likely release the cause of death Tuesday or Wednesday.

A 50-year-old woman from the Carson Valley nearly drowned in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday after she fell off her paddle board and got caught underwater in the cold and swift Upper Truckee River.
Three rescued by Coast Guard on south end of Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/20/2016 - 8:38pmLAKE TAHOE - Three people were rescued after a distress call led the Coast Guard to the 25-foot vessel, JUST ENOUGH, as it was taking on water near the California/Nevada border of the South Shore of Lake Tahoe Tuesday afternoon.
The initial call came in at 3:00 p.m. and crews from Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County Sheriffs Department responded to the scene.
Missing Spinoni Italiano dogs may have been spotted in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/03/2016 - 1:40pmSouth Tahoe Now and Carson Now carried the story of a helicopter search for missing Spinoni Italiano dogs near Carson City, and now reports of the two pets being spotted in South Lake Tahoe are coming in.
On Friday night, owners Stacey and Lorne Bell were walking the dogs, Mara and Adele, in east Carson City along the Carson River and on the ridges in the Mexican Dam area. As Stacey went to take a photo, the dogs broke loose and took off running, possibly after a rabbit.

The event will start at 10:00 a.m. with vendors and a vintage car show. Vendors will offer products and services for the home, including items like hand crafted furniture and lamps, small plants, local artists and authors, candles, and gift items. Liberty Energy, the Lake Tahoe Humane Society, Christmas Cheer, and the Cancer League will be on hand to explain the services available for our community.
Injured pink Chihuahua thrives at home in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/06/2015 - 9:51pmYou may remember the news back on January 13, 2014, when a Chihuahua puppy was found in the Bay Area with her fur dyed pink and a fractured leg. A good Samaritan had picked the puppy off the street and took her into the Peninsula Humane Society (PHS) and SPCA in San Mateo, CA.
Their staff got the two-month old puppy into surgery for a hairline fracture to her right rear tibia and started her on pain medication. As she was resting at the facility the staff named her "Candy" because of her unique coloring.

Nearly 100 guests began their tours at the Marriott Grand Residence Club with a taste from Crystal Basin Cellars before embarking on a tour to participating businesses. Each shop welcomed attendees with food, drinks and raffle prizes. It was a fun, blustery night that included great food, wine and friends.
