Halloween Party

Remember minivans? Now think about this for a moment: how many new minivans do you see on the road? In my youth, it seemed like every third car on the road was a people carrier. In 2020 I hardly see any brand-new ones, and the answer seems to be that minivan buyers simply switched to SUVs instead. Maybe it’s because they’re simply uncool and became a cliché of new parents. Regardless of the reason, what if there was a vehicle that is a marriage of both? Enter the Pilot.

The ninth annual South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival will be a weekend full of great food, fine wine and high spirits at Harrah's and Harveys Lake Tahoe, Oct. 26 - 28, 2018

Ghouls, goblins, princesses, super heroes and all other trick-or-treaters are invited to head over to the Tahoe Beach Retreat and Lodge for "Trick & Retreat" on Tuesday, October 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The South Lake Tahoe hotel is providing a safe and fun environment for their annual Halloween party. Businesses come together and decorate rooms for kids to visit and get their treats. There will also be a bounce house, music, s'more making and more.

This event is free to the public and not only are little goblins but so are furry ones since they are pet-friendly.

For almost four decades, Halloween in South Lake Tahoe has been a party like no other with the annual Freakers Ball bringing people in from all over to demonstrate their creative talents in costume creations.

Local Brian Williams started the tradition inside the Tahoe Palace, a Chinese restaurant which was located next to Raley's at Stateline at the time. He named the event after the 1972 Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show song, "Freaker's Ball." The location changed from there, to the old Super 8 (Knight's Inn), Edgewood Tahoe, the former nightclub Turtles, then to Caesars Tahoe.

Halloween night was a busy one for the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD). Just as they were handling the arrest of seven people that were found with bandanas over their faces and guns and drugs in their car, officers were called to the scene of a stabbing.

While attending a party at a Silverwood Avenue vacation rental, 21-year-old Josh Boyer of South Lake Tahoe was stabbed multiple times during a fight with several other party attendees.

While many may head into Carson City on October 31 to celebrate the state's birthday and parade, thousands of Northern Nevadans will be heading over the Sierra into El Dorado County to enjoy time at the county's winery and Apple Hill regions.

Why you ask?

Nobody really knows the answer, but the El Dorado Winery Association is embracing it.

"It took us several years to figure out why we were so busy on Halloween," said Paul Bush, the owner and winemaker of Madroña Vineyards.

Halloween fun at the Divided Sky in South Lake Tahoe! The progressive bluegrass quartet from Portland, Student Loan Stringband returns to the Meyers hot spot for an evening of groovy, quirky, and lively genre-buster of a show.

Join the band at Divided Sky for a special night full of original tunes, favorite covers, and toe-steppin, boot-stompin jams!

Wear a costume, get a treat! Doors open at 8 p.m. and the cover charge is $10.

Step into a blue Halloween at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe on Halloween night. The League to Save Lake Tahoe is teaming up with local progressive rockers Groovebox to stage a Halloween Party all about keeping it blue. A costume contest will award prizes for best overall costume and most creative blue costume.

Other attractions include raffles and a special Halloween photo booth. A portion of proceeds will help support the League to Save Lake Tahoe. Show starts at 8 p.m., $10 cover and 18+, American Legion, 2748 Young Street, South Lake Tahoe.
