San Francisco man arrested after allegedly stabbing girlfriend at Lake Tahoe

The Placer County Sheriff's Office has arrested 27-year-old Justin Moe of San Francisco after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend while she slept in the Blackwood Canyon area of Lake Tahoe.

On Monday, September 24, deputies responded to the area after the victim said the suspect stabbed her, then fled barefoot into the woods wearing a southwestern pattern blanket.

Sheriff K9s responded to search the area to search with deputies. Moe was eventually caught by the Placer Sheriff Off-Highway-Vehicle (OHV) team.

Motorcyclist suffers serious injuries after Lake Tahoe collision

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries on Saturday, September 15 after colliding with a car on Highway 50 in front of Lake Village.

Traffic is now able to get by the scene on the shoulder of the road according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The eastbound left lane is blocked as they clear the vehicle and motorcycle.

Expect delays.

According to witnesses the victim was transported by care flight.

Mass casualty / active shooter drill held in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) held a mass casualty/active shooter drive Thursday at their training center on Rufus Allen Blvd.

Since first responders don't want to use a real event to test their skills, drills of these types are crucial to their being prepared.

Tahoe Douglas Fire, Lake Valley Fire, California Highway Patrol, Care Flight/Remsa, Cal-Star, Cal-Tahoe JPA, South Tahoe Action Team, the FBI and South Lake Tahoe Police Department all joined SLTFR and 22 volunteers in the drills.

Five boaters near Kings Beach rescued after boat takes on water

The Coast Guard and Placer County Marine unit crews rescued five boaters whose 45-foot recreational vessel was taking on water near King's Beach in Lake Tahoe on Sunday, September 2, 2018.

The captain of the recreational vessel issued a distress call via VHF FM channel 16 around 9:30 p.m., reporting his boat was taking on water.

Nevada law enforcement joining forces to emphasize importance of safe and sober driving

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is joining the Nevada Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies in the state to emphasize the importance of safe and sober driving during the Labor Day Holiday weekend and beginning of September.

The enforcement began on August 25 and ends on Monday, September 10.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will dedicate extra officers to DUI enforcement as part of a statewide JOINING FORCES campaign aimed at reducing tragedies caused by people driving under the influence.

South Lake Tahoe crash sends car into home

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Nissan pickup truck ended up in a South Lake Tahoe home on Saturday afternoon after being struck from behind by a Dodge Ram truck.

At 1:30 p.m. on August 25, the driver of the pickup truck was driving on Pioneer Trail when he stopped to turn onto Herbert Avenue. He was struck from behind by the Dodge and passed out. His pickup then freewheeled down Herbert and crashed into a home at the corner of Warr Road and Herbert Avenue.

The driver was transported to Barton Hospital with undisclosed injuries. There were no other injuries.

Vehicle crashes into tree and rolls over near Skyland in Lake Tahoe

A driver sustained minor injuries in a crash north of Zephyr Cove near Skyland Monday afternoon.

Just before 4:00 p.m., an unidentified adult woman traveling in a southwesterly direction drove her car off Highway 50 and into a tree where the car subsequently rolled over.

The woman suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment, according to Trooper Matt McLaughlin of the Nevada Highway Patrol. He said she got a ride home as her car is undriveable.

Highway 50 was backed up with traffic for about an hour as emergency crews worked at the scene.

Motorhome leads law enforcement on chase from South Lake Tahoe to Gardnerville

A motorhome being driven recklessly through South Lake Tahoe and Stateline led law enforcement on a high-speed ride along Highway 50, over Spooner Summit and into the Carson Valley before it crashed into a building in Gardnerville, Nev.

At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 26, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was alerted about the 1997 Airstream motorhome speeding through South Lake Tahoe, running red lights and traveling without headlamps on. They saw it as it crossed into Nevada traveling 55 mph in a 35-mph zone when an enforcement stop was initiated.

Ferguson Fire 100% contained; firefighters gaining control on most others

There are still several fires burning in California but firefighters have gained the upper hand on many of them.

Ferguson Fire: The Ferguson Fire is now at 96,901 acres with 100 percent containment and 881 personnel currently engaged on the fire. During the most critical time in the fire, over 3,000 people were assigned to the incident from all over the world. There have been 2 fatalities and 19 injuries. 10 structures have been destroyed.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested in Carson City for alleged 3rd DUI

A 52-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested in the area of North Curry and West Spear streets for felony suspicion of third DUI, driving on a revoked license, and following too close, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Ragan Allen Stacey was arrested after deputies responded to a two vehicle crash Saturday evening. Dispatch advised the driver of one of the vehicles was walking away from the crash, and deputies were able to locate him on North Curry Street.

Several crashes in South Lake Tahoe this weekend, including one involving pedestrian

First responders around the South Lake Tahoe area were kept busy over the weekend with collisions, a jet ski crash and a major incident involving a pedestrian and vehicle.

On Sunday, August 19 at 12:12 a.m., South Lake Tahoe fire and police departments responded to the intersection of Lake Tahoe Boulevard (Hwy 50) and Lakeview Avenue on the call of a pedestrian versus vehicle crash.

Alex R. Coryell was a watchman for the Virginia City Police Department from 1873 until June 25, 1891. Coryell was a Civil War veteran who left the state of Virginia after the war and moved to Virginia City, Nevada. His family became well known and prominent in Virginia City, with one of his relatives becoming a pharmacist on C Street.

Current status of fires burning in Northern California and Nevada

Smoke from fires west of Lake Tahoe is expected to come into the basin again today, but Sunday morning is clear. Here is an update on most fires in Northern California and Western Nevada.

Fire restrictions in place in Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Increased fuels due to the wet winter and spring, drying vegetation, high fuel loading, and increasing daytime temperatures have prompted the Bridgeport and Carson Ranger Districts on the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest to announce the implementation of fire restrictions beginning August 04.

Ferguson, Carr, Perry and Whaleback Fires still burning

The Perry Fire burning between Reno and Pyramid Lake has now burned 25,600 acres and is now 15 percent contained. It started Friday evening and the cause is unknown at this time.

Ferguson Fire grows to 43,299 acres, still sending some smoke into Lake Tahoe Basin

Some smoke from the Fergason Fire burning west of Yosemite is still making its way into the Lake Tahoe Basin Thursday, and more of the same hazy conditions are expected Friday.

The fire grew by 1,723 acres overnight to a total of 43,299 acres and firefighters have been able to get a line around 27 percent of the fire. 3,686 personnel are currently engaged on the fire which includes 241 engines, 47 water tenders, 18 helicopters, 94 crews, and 63 dozers. South Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Fire and North Tahoe Fire all have sent crews to help in the efforts.

Three fire departments respond to South Lake Tahoe apartment fire

One apartment was heavily damaged during an afternoon fire in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday.

At 4:00 p.m. on July 25, 2018, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) was called out to the Rockwater Apartments in the 700 block of Emerald Bay Road. A fire had erupted on the deck of one of the apartments, apparently at a propane tank.

Second victim in fatal Truckee plane crash identified

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the person who died following Tuesday's plane crash in Truckee as Peter C. Jackson, 55, of West Hollywood, Calif.

Shortly before 7:40 a.m. on July 17, 2018, the single-engine piston Navion-B crashed near the Northstar golf course on the west side of Highway 267, not far from the Truckee-Tahoe Airport.

House fire in Meyers under investigation

A house fire in Meyers brought out crews from multiple agencies on Friday, July 13.

Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) responded to a structure fire call at approximately 11:04 a,m. Crews arrived to the scene on Kiowa Drive to find smoke and flames coming from the lower lever of the home. Firefighters initiated a fire attack and with the help of CalFire, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and North Tahoe Fire, crews were able to knock down the flames and extinguish the fire.

Man succumbs to injuries sustained in Kingsbury Grade crash

A Gardnerville, Nevada man has died from injuries he received in a motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade/State Route 207 on Sunday, July 8, 2018.

Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) troopers responded to the 2:45 p.m. crash and found 69-year-old Dana Edward Orgill on the ground. He was transported to Renown Hospital in Reno via a CalStar helicopter with serious injuries.

Man stabbed over parking space at South Lake Tahoe CVS

Road rage over a parking spot in South Lake Tahoe led to the stabbing of a 51-year-old man from San Jose on Thursday, July 12.

At about 10:30 a.m., the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received numerous 911 calls about a stabbing in front of the CVS Pharmacy located at 3471 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Upon arrival they found Scott Nevin bleeding from a stab wound. Witnesses identified 71-year-old Paul Ivanovsky from Sparks as the person who allegedly stabbed Nevin, and he was sitting in his car nearby, awaiting the arrival of police.

Motorcyclist goes down on Kingsbury Grade, airlifted to hospital

A 69-year-old man from Gardnerville had to be airlifted after running off the road on Kingsbury Grade Sunday.

The unidentified man was traveling on the road just before 3:00 p.m. when he ran off the Kingsbury just west of Tramway Drive (mile marker Douglas 4). The bike went down in the gravel, causing serious injuries to the rider.

The motorcyclist was transported by helicopter to the hospital and his current medical status is unknown at this time.

Sacramento man suffers major injuries after going off road near Twin Bridges

A 38-year-old man from Sacramento, California is in Renown Medical Center this afternoon after suffering major injuries after going off US50 east of Slippery Ford Road near Twin Bridges at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018.

The unidentified man was driving his vehicle on eastbound US50, east of Slippery Ford Road at an unsafe speed according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Due to his high rate of speed speed in the curvy section of the road he could not maintain his position within the traffic lane and lost control.

Fireworks barge catches fire in Lake Tahoe

Two hours after the Lights on the Lake fireworks show ended on July 4, one of three barges used in the show caught on fire.

The fireworks crews on board attempted to put out the fire with fire extinguishers but were unable to suppress the flames. Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) monitors the show each year and weren't far away. At 12:27 a.m. July 5, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District responded with their new fire boat, Marine 24, and doused the fire within six minutes.

There were no injuries.

Gardnerville man arrested on charges related to fatal car crash in Carson City

Omar Adan Oronia-Camacho has been arrested in connected of a crash in Carson City that claimed the life of a woman on January 6, 2018.

Since the date of the crash, the Nevada Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) has been working on the investigation.

One dead, one arrested in South Lake Tahoe shooting

UPDATE 7/2 8:15AM: The victim in Saturday's shooting has been identified as 44-year-old Christopher Kitchen of South Lake Tahoe. The suspect, 62-year-old Roy Figaro of South Lake Tahoe, is in the El Dorado County Jail and is facing murder charges.

Douglas County Sheriff's deputies to start wearing body cameras

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) will begin a phased roll out to all uniformed officers on body worn cameras on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

In May, 2017, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed Senate Bill 176, making the state the second one in the country to require peace officers who interact with the public to wear body worn cameras (BWC).

“Body cameras will protect law enforcement officials and strengthen the relationships with those in the communities in which they serve,” said Governor Sandoval at the time.

Cyclist killed by hit-and-run driver along US50 in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 33-year-old South Lake Tahoe man died after being struck by a vehicle on US 50 between Grocery Outlet and the Upper Truckee Bridge as he crossed the highway.

Crews from Security Paving, the Caltrans contractor working in the area, arrived at the job site at 5:38 a.m. Wednesday and found the body off the side of the road and called the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).

SLTPD arrived first but turned the incident over to California Highway Patrol (CHP) as it was construction zone incident. Work had not yet begun for the day.

Man dies after being shot multiple times in South Lake Tahoe

A 62-year-old South Lake Tahoe man has died after being shot multiple times by an unknown assailant.

Gregory Mitchoff was found in the 3600 block of Spruce Avenue in South Lake Tahoe by police responding to a report of gunshots heard at 9:30 p.m. on June 11. They rendered aid and Mitchoff was transported to Barton Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The suspect(s) left the scene in a vehicle and the case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 530.542.6100 or Lake Tahoe Secret Witness at 530.541.6800.

Fire at Tahoma home Thursday, all escaped with no injuries

There was a multi-agency response to a residential structure fire near Antelope and Alder streets in Tahoma on the west shore of Lake Tahoe around 9:48 a.m. Thursday.

When Meeks Bay Fire Protection District (MBFPD) fire engines first arrived, they found the home 50 percent engulfed in flames. Three adults live in the two-story house and two were home at the time of the fire. They were able to get out with no injuries.

Coast Guard rescues teen paddle boarders on Lake Tahoe

The Coast Guard rescued two stand-up paddle boarders who were observed struggling on Lake Tahoe, Tuesday afternoon.

A good Samaritan called 911 at approximately 4:00 p.m., reporting two teenage boys adrift and struggling to paddle upwind near Rubicon Point on Lake Tahoe, which was relayed to Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe watchstanders.

A Station Lake Tahoe 25-foot response boat crew was dispatched to the scene. The crew took the paddlers aboard and transported them to Lester Beach with no reported injuries.

Man arrested in South Lake Tahoe after allegedly stabbing roommate

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One man is behind bars and another at Renown Medical Center with life threatening injuries after an altercation Monday between roommates at a Stateline area motel.

At 12:30 p.m. on May 28, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a report of a stabbing at the Mark Twain Motel at 947 Park Avenue. Upon arrival they found a 23-year-old man who had recently moved to South Lake Tahoe with numerous life threatening wounds to his head and leg.

Injured paraglider rescued from steep embankment near Mt. Rose

An injured paraglider was rescued from a steep embankment along the Mt. Rose Highway near the Slide Mountain trailhead on Monday, May 28.

Rescue personnel from North Lake Tahoe Fire, Truckee Meadows Fire and the Washoe County Sheriff Search and Rescue team and HASTY team assisted in getting the injured person up from 200 feet down using high angle rescue methods.

Victim’s injuries are not life-threatening per fire personnel.

Driver sought in hit-and-run with bicyclist

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is looking for the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclists on State Route 28 in Crystal Bay.

US-395 closed near Topaz Lodge after mudslide crosses roadway into hotel

UPDATE 5/22 6:35 a.m. :. On May 21, 2018 at approximately 6:38 p.m. East Fork Fire Protection District and Douglas County Emergency Management was dispatched to several reports of massive debris flows across US 395 in several locations in and around the Topaz Lodge and on Topaz Park Road.

The Topaz Lodge was occupied with about 200 people who sheltered in place during the event. West 395 and Topaz Park Road were completely impassable. Approximately 20 occupied motor vehicles were impacted on the roadways, with no reported injuries.

77-year-old identified as man killed in Douglas County

The man who was killed by deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) after making threats to “kill the police” and hitting one of them with his car has been identified as 77-year-old Jimmy Alan Moss from Yerington, Nev.

DCSO had responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving a weapon on Shadow Lane in northern Douglas County at 9:30 p.m. May 19.

One suspect was shot and killed and a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy is recovering from injuries sustained after responding to a domestic violence call in the Sunridge area of the county.

Reno residents die in Mt. Rose crash

A crash on May 5 on the Mt. Rose Highway between a 2016 BMW X1 SUV and a 2017 Nissan Sentra sedan claimed the lives of an 78-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man, both of Reno, Nev.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a serious injury crash involving the two vehicles on State Route 431 (Mount Rose Highway) at the intersection of Callahan Road in Reno.

Preliminary investigation shows that the BMW was traveling westbound on the Mt. Rose Highway, east of Callahan Road. The Sentra was traveling eastbound, west of Callahan Road.
