With fundraising taking on a different look due to the pandemic, many nonprofits have taken to the internet for a way to help their groups raise much-needed funds.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce Board recently asked the nine City Council candidates ten questions they felt were of most importance to its members. The questions focused mainly on topics relating to things that will or may affect both the local small businesses and the community in general.

Their board made the decision to not endorse a specific candidate this election, but instead rank them based on how much they align with the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce goals based on their answers to the questions below.

We are both running for South Lake Tahoe City Council to move our community past division, negativity, misinformation and finger pointing, and toward common ground solutions on critical issues. We’re all in this together.

On April 18, 2017 the South Lake Tahoe City Council unanimously passed a resolution to: 1) Power the South Lake Tahoe community with electricity provided from 100 percent renewable sources by 2032 and 2) Reduce community carbon emissions from baseline by at least 80 percent by 2040, and reduce municipal emissions by 50 percent by 2030.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be two new members of the South Lake Tahoe City Council after the November 3 election. In the coming weeks the pubic will have chances to hear from the candidates both via zoom, in print and possibly in person. 1:49 a.m. - Spousal Battery - South Lake Tahoe - 39-YEAR-OLD MALE ARRESTED.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - School Resource Officers, or SROs, have been a recent topic of conversations in the community with some residents questioning the need for an armed officer on South Lake Tahoe campuses.

The word "resource" gives one an insight into their position - a resource for the students, and not only at school. A resource for the parents. A resource for the school district. A resource for the school.

And the job doesn't end there.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The FBI anticipates cyber actors will exploit increased use of virtual environments by government agencies, the private sector, private organizations, and individuals as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Computer systems and virtual environments provide essential communication services for telework and education, in addition to conducting regular business. The criminal, or cyber actor, will exploit vulnerabilities in these systems to steal sensitive information, target individuals and businesses performing financial transactions, and engage in extortion.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - No, you're not going be fined for taking a shower and doing laundry on the same day. A news story by a Los Angeles area television station and carried through the internet on New Year's Day wrongly stated just that as an effect of upcoming water efficiency laws.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - First it was Lime Bikes, but now the company's Lime Scooters have created both enjoyment and concern in South Lake Tahoe. The popular mode of transportation is used by millions worldwide and provides over 100,000 annual rides in South Lake Tahoe.

But the illegal use by minors and a flaw in the Lime app process has drawn concern from local law enforcement and residents.

1:30 a.m. Sunday update: Charter services have reportedly been restored to all customers after starting to come back for some around 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

4:15 p.m. update: While power is restored there are still internet issues for Spectrum customers. No word on when those services will be restored.

3:45 p.m. update: A contractor knocked down a telecom line which made contact with a Liberty Utilities line, locking the breaker. All power has been restored.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Sierra House Elementary School is on track to reopen on September 9. Students at the South Lake Tahoe school were unable to start classes on August 26 with the rest of the kids in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) after their school was not ready after a fire caused major damage on November 11, 2018.

The Tahoe Prosperity Center (TPC) mission is uniting Tahoe’s communities to strengthen regional prosperity. TPC provides regional solutions to regional needs on behalf of the communities that make up the Lake Tahoe region. One of those critical issues is a lack of housing for local workers. This negatively impacts businesses trying to hire workers and local residents who want to live, work and play in Lake Tahoe. Many workers in our Tourism driven economy find themselves unable to afford a home or apartment.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is taking a first, big step toward helping address the lack of affordable student housing in the community by leasing a five-unit apartment building near Ski Run Blvd.

The college's trustees gave authority to school administration to sign a five-year lease with the owner of that apartment building during their meeting Tuesday evenings. The lease starts on July 2, 2019.

STATELINE, Nev. - The Douglas County Commissioners will be considering the adoption of a new fire code which would require the installation of automatic fire sprinklers on new construction of homes less than 5,000 square feet. Their approval would acknowledge that benefits outweigh the cost to homeowners.

The meeting in Minden, which starts at 1:00 p.m., is normally fed live through the internet but as of 10:00 a.m. there were some technical difficulties and it may not be shown online.

People playing the popular Scrabble-like digital game 'Words With Friends' are now the target of scammers who prey on unsuspecting people. This scam, along with a resurgence of IRS scams, has come to the attention of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The stories of 10-15 hours to get to Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area on Friday were not isolated, and many of the repeat reports are occurring on Saturday.

An El Dorado Hills woman who was convicted of felony animal cruelty charges in 2016 has been sentenced to an additional 240 days of jail time for violating the conditions of her felony probation. The jail sentence was handed down in El Dorado County Superior Court on November 9, 2018.

Ginger Turk, 48, a puppy broker, has had many run-ins with the law over the years due to her illegal practice of importing tiny, under-aged, un-weaned, high-priced ($4,000+) puppies from South Korea and selling them over the internet and in person.

Comedian Howie Nave is taking his show on the road, this time to the Carson Comedy Club inside the Carson Nugget September 7 and 8.

Many around South Lake Tahoe know Howie from his number one morning drive radio show "Howie's Morning Rush" on KRLT-FM (krltfm.com) and from his years of comedy on the South Shore. He has long been a staple in the world of stand up. How long? There's a plaque with his name on it near the entrance of South Lake Tahoe that's he's called home now for almost 18 years.
