Texas woman hits $1.34M jackpot at Harveys Lake Tahoe

STATELINE, Nev. - There was an exciting end to the Presidents’ Day Weekend for Dorothy Boone of Temple, Texas as she hit the Three Card Poker progressive jackpot at Harveys Lake Tahoe on the night of Monday, Feb. 17, resulting in a win of $1,340,518.

Dorothy had been playing for approximately one hour when she hit the progressive jackpot with a Royal Flush in Spades on the 3 Card Poker table at Harveys. It was a first time Lake Tahoe visit for Dorothy and her husband, which almost didn’t happen as their group had originally planned to visit Laughlin, Nevada.

South Shore casinos hit jackpot in October

Casinos on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe posted big gains in October according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board's monthly recap of the state's casino revenue. Nevada’s non-restricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $952,404,403 for the month.

The $19,503,080 South Shore "gaming win" is 14.32 percent above the same month in 2018. As a state, the revenue of $1,021,909,865 is down 3.85 percent. They have posted gains over 2018 in three of the last four months.

The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

South Shore casinos hit the jackpot in July

Gaming revenue for the State of Nevada during the month of July 2018 remained almost even with the previous year, posting a loss of .16 percent with a "win" of $996,439,793 for casinos in the state, according to figures released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board today.

On the South Shore, the $29,940,267 in gaming revenue earned by the casinos was up by 25.52 percent from 2017. The Carson City and Carson Valley had a "win" of $9,559,069, up .31 percent.

The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

Santa Cruz doctor identified as victim in Mt. Rose avalanche

Dr. Thomas Barker of Aptos, Calif. has been identified at the man found buried in snow at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe on Sunday, the apparent victim of an avalanche the previous day.

The 64-year-old Barker was an ear, nose and throat specialist with a practice in Santa Cruz.

Charles “Butch” Jensen died peacefully in Sacramento on May 14, 2016 of cancer. He was 73 years old.

Whittell High's basketball team wins Northern Nevada Division IV title

Whittell High School is heading to the Nevada state championships next week as the #1 seed from the north after taking care of Mineral County, winning 60-44.

The Warriors trip to the Northern Nevada Division IV title began with a 14-0 regular season record. In round one of the tournament they beat Jackpot 69-36, followed by a semifinal Whittell victory over Pyramid Lake 60-49.

South Tahoe and Whittell High boys basketball teams head to playoffs Thursday

The boys varsity basketball teams from both high schools on the South Shore are playing in the Northern Nevada playoffs starting Thursday.

South Tahoe High boys, who are the number three seed in Northern Nevada NIAA Division 1-A, are headed to North Valleys High in Reno Thursday afternoon for their quarterfinal game against Spring Creek at 4:40 p.m. The STHS Vikings are split on the season against the Spartans with one loss, and one win.

Big Powerball winner purchased ticket at 7-11 in South Lake Tahoe

Check your POWERBALL tickets as you might have just won over $700,000!

A ticket sold at the 7-11 store on Pioneer Trail matched five of five numbers, except for the POWERBALL jackpot, winning $708,769 in Wednesday night's lottery drawing.

The numbers are They are: 11, 24, 31, 40, 44 and Power Number 27.

The winner hadn't contacted the store as of 11:45 a.m. Thursday according to manager Rhonda St. Onge. Her store will receive money from the Lottery as well, but St. Onge didn't know how much yet.

Olympians to participate in Heavenly Valley's High Roller Hold'Em this spring

Casinos on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe had a gaming win of $28,419,413 in August, up 32.64% from the same month a year ago according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB).

In figures released today, the NGCB shows the whole state of Nevada was down 3.66% with a net win of $920,291,644.

The gaming win represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

The South Shore casinos led the state in wins while casinos in North Lake Tahoe and Mesquite had the biggest losses at 7.25% and 6.64% respectively.

Last Thursday, Elaine and I spent an enjoyable morning (as usual) fishing for Mackinaw (Lake) Trout at Lake Tahoe with our longtime friend and sport fishing guide, Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

"Gino" has fished Tahoe for some 30 years and is one of the top, if not the top, fishing guides at that lake.
Sigh, and as usual on that day, Man's Favorite Sport belonged to Elaine for the fourth straight year!
